Going down in defeat tonight were, among others, the following: Austin Statesman: Editorials, staff, Ken Herman, et al Wendy Davis: 59% to 39% Urban Rail Proposal: 57% to 43% The public was confronted with advertising and Statesman editorials and reports that pushed for Senator Davis and, for the most part, the Urban Rail boondoggle. Now if Texas can just win the next three football games...
I'd set the odds on Texas winning the next three games about the same as Rick Perry being elected as our next President
Davis basically got curb stomped. In light of her campaign, I'm actually surprised she did as well as she did.
somehow steal the WVU game and all bets are off from there. Deez, are you really saying she was predicted to lose by 20 points by you or anyone else? 44% of the Hispanic vote for Abbott. Little, RR commish, Bush has to like that as he gets his Abuela primed for her commercials in the coming years. Abbott's mother in law did very well in hers.
That rail plan was stupid and expensive. Im not against rail and ride the current metro rail often. Its one line that goes back and forth but its almost always full when I ride it. I think a good plan would do well in Austin, especially with the insane growth that is projected. The problem is that we get terrible idea after terrible idea. Connect UT, DT, the AP and the neighborhoods in between, with the potential for expansion then we can talk.
If the R's can routinely get about half of the minority vote it actually bodes well for them. It means they are not mindless automatons.
MrD what might be important going forward is the fact that Abbott got 44% of Hispanic vote. His people thought 35-40% would be a win. Davis might not have been the best candidate but the money she spent in concentrated Hispanic areas and the people she had on the ground((she had a large contingent of Hispanic females on the ground from San Antonio to el paso and in the valley) didn't help her like she thought it and they would. I wonder if her nasty ads against Abbott juxtaposed with the gentle ads by Abbots Hispanic mother in law had an impact.
Damn I'm going to miss HF. The wit and sarcasm displayed by so many posters is wonderful. Y'all take care and
Two things come to mind: 1.) The Economy in Texas is not as bad as some places in the country. 2.) Abortion is not a get out and vote topic for a state election, she was seen as the Pro-Abortion candidate, not a good state to be pro-abortion with Hispanic Catholics in the state......... We will never hear the name Wendy Davis again except for Trivia Questions.....
