Hearing unconfirmed reports (2) that Traylor is interviewing with Mizzou for a Co-OC job.

Also, that this may have been arranged before we got Sterlin Gilbert. If you recall, Traylor was taken to Tulsa to help woo Gilbert. Then Watson and Wick left, so any "toxicity" in the offense room probably left with them.

I can totally see Traylor moving on to become one of the great Texas OC's that never was.

"Hmmmm, now where can I find an OC to save my job? That one guy who works here keeps staring at me with that weird expression, I wonder what that's all about. Anyway, better go look for that new OC." - Charlie Strong

Higs in response to some Traylor questions --

-- How does Jeff Traylor interviewing for other programs have an immediate effect on recruiting?

I think it makes people mad – in regards to recruits. The reason is simple. You can’t tell a kid or family you would never leave or have intentions to leave and then in less than a year give the appearance you are leaving. If you walk into your dream job straight from high school, and you jump after one year. It could set a bad precedent. Fast track is not always the best track. Right now, all of this is simply talk. When/if he sticks with the interview, we will see what unfolds.

    --------------------------------------------------

-- How important is Jeff Traylor to recruiting? If we lose him, do we lose recruits who have verbally committed?

I think Jeff Traylor is a great recruiter and a great coach. He has the most powerful brand in America on his chest as he walks into a high school or a kids home. All he has ever known is recruiting with the Texas logo on his shirt. Once that goes away, things will become much more difficult for him. If he were to leave for Missouri or some other program for money/title that’s a decision he needs to make for he and his family. Slow and steady wins the race in my opinion when it comes to things like this.

Is Chad Morris being mentioned for any of the 25 job openings this cycle? It doesn't seem like anyone is thinking about him at this time –or that is the perception I have behind the scenes after talking to some in the inner circle of the coaching hires/fires. I wonder how many jobs Chad Morris could have picked from had he stayed ONE MORE YEAR at Clemson. Think about that for a second? One more season, playing for a National Title and you have your hand picked job possibly. Now, in my opinion, I bet the two CO-OC’s at Clemson currently, one of them lands a bigger job than Morris will because he bounced for a job he should have left alone.

    Nahlin on Traylor --

if Texas loses Traylor obviously that's a big blow to recruiting. Along with Vaughn he's the biggest volume recruiter on staff and is always burning up the phones. We really don't want it to come to this. He's scheduled to interview in Columbia tomorrow.

Also points out he is the primary recruiter for Brandon Jones, one of the potential bellcows for this class

I posted in another thread a quote from Higs from a few days ago:

"I do need to mention we could see a boulder dropped in the pond that could cause some not so nice ripples for Texas...lot of stuff going on..."

No specifics or hints were mentioned.

It's now being reported that Traylor interviewed at Colorado (hence Higs' use of "boulder"), but that the Buffs just named TeeTee's WR coach Darrin Chiaverini as Co-OC. That leaves Mizzou which Traylor either has interviewed with or will tomorrow - I can't tell from what I've read.

The man who lands Mizzou will rue the day he accepted that job as the tail is wagging the dog in the Show Me State.

Traylor may be looking at it like this....
Right now Texas wants him. If Mizzou or others want him they will PAY pretty good to get him with that leverage.
If he waits, and Charlie fails and is canned; where does that leave him ? What kind of money can he expect with no leverage ? Does he have to go back to high school money...and for how many years ? for good ?
Does he risk it all or head to higher ground ? He is truly in a quandary.

Unless he thinks he is the next Todd Graham, I think he stays.

If Charlie gets canned, Traylor will be safe. Art will come in here and keep Traylor, Gilbert and Mattox. Its part of the master plan that is in play.

I think Art should be on our list, somewhere between Ed Orgeron and Bo Pelini. That better be on Page 2.

If this staff fails I can't see the new coach keeping anyone on this staff. He will bring his own people in from UNC or UH.......LOL

If Briles would come we would be in the same boat if he brought that DC he has at Baylor. That guy has kept Baylor from becoming a juggernaut the last few years.

i think strong know how important that guy is and if the people behind him are sincere about putting this team in the best position to win they will make a matching offer Ito keep traylor in Austin if mizzou decides to give him a shot

As of today, Traylor is still listed as "Tight Ends / Special Teams" coach on the Texas Sports page, while the UT Staff Directory shows him as "Assistant Head Coach--Defense.

Recruits should know that coaches lie and will move anytime they want. The system allows them to do this while hypocritically binding the players to the school after the LOI is signed. Because of this, the recruits should choose on the basis of the school and not the coaches.

That's reality to me, but it's a fantasy to think the recruits make decisions like that. It seems that the relationship with the coach is what matters.
