Not only is this 100% false, it is a political debate that belongs on West Mall. Uber and Lyft engaged in a million dollar propaganda campaign so full of obvious lies that it repulsed the voters of Austin. They wanted to make Austin an example of their corporate power, but it didn't work. Houston and NYC, among other cities, have the same regulations Uber and Lyft were fighting in Austin, i.e. sensible screening of drivers who transport many defenseless, inebriated young people late at night. But don't worry, it is a lot easier for corporations to buy bills in the legislature than it is for them to buy voters in Austin. They will get their way in a few months, no doubt.
As for Perkins, the crows in Texas have breathed a huge sigh of relief. I don't see how we win the next two games without one of, or the best o-linemen we have.

Anwar Richardson (I believe affiliated with OB but not sure) tweeted the mug shot and mocked people who said that was in poor taste. What an *** hat.
I left OB a long time ago. It is totally unnecessary to post college kid mug shots. That's my $.02. Hope Anwar doesn't live in a glass house. Jk, actually I hope he does ...

What is "silly" about Charlie's rules? I assume you mean the Core Values. They seem very reasonable to me.

I'm sorry folks but this doesn't look good an I'm not as forgiving or generous as many of you seem to be. Strong has a code of conduct and this guy, a freakin’ "senior leader," is arrested at 4:54 AM? That's crapola. What was he doing out driving at 4:54 AM? On a donut run? Let's get real.

I don't care about the impact to the team. Unless there are some extraordinary circumstances (which I cannot imagine), the penalty should be severe.

Zero tolerance is just that...or it isn't. We are Texas, not the Aggies, OU, Ohio State or Alabama.

I feel sad for the young man. He made a terrible decision when he left his home to go get some fried chicken, after getting smashed apparently. Or maybe he was at a bar. that would be even worse, somehow, if he got that intoxicated, and someone let him get in his car and drive. Once someone gets .178 bac decisions are impossible. The cerebral cortex is useless.

At any rate, he needs discipline, and he needs counsel, and he needs help, and I think he needs a second chance. He needs to learn that he can recover from this. Serve some time, and work his way back on the team, earn their trust. And maybe by the second half of the season get back on the field. Just my thoughts.

    Mistake- no doubt.
I ask only those who haven't made the same mistake to make hypocritical comments starting... now.

It is my understanding that Austin PD initially found him stopped and asleep in a drive thru. Not pointing fingers nor making a judgement call, since I was not on the scene, but why instruct a driver that is asleep in a drive thru to go on his merry way. I would think to evaluate the driver for intoxication and if intoxicated don't let him drive but instead have him call someone to take him home.

A constable found him first. Called in APD after he crashed from falling back asleep.

Your statement indicates that Austin, or the city's elected keaders, kicked them out. Austin simply said that Uber and Lyft were not exempt from regulations enacted to try and keep the citizens of Austin safe. In other words, they were not special.

Uber and Lyft thought they were special and wanted people in Austin to vote over whether they were special or not. Austinites said NO, you are not special.

So Austin did not kick them out, they quite Austin.

I really don't understand the entire Uber flap. Taxi companies do crimonal backgound checks? Have any of you ever tried to do one? YellowCab (not specifically but as an example) sends in a criminal history check to The State oof Texas. If there is nothing, there is no reply. If there is something, YellowCab will receive a notice 3=6 months later.

So, we don't want to fix a flawed system, but would rather have non English speaking Nigerians or Iranians, who can't find Congress and Fifth from Colorado and Third, the same people that have no "history", than Joe Bob who may have a misdemeanor pot charge? The system is seriously flawed and Uber knows it, the voting populous once again is ill informed, misinformed and a collection of sheep.

I have never used Uber, but the above is exactly why I have a driver service in certain cities when I travel, particularly NYC. I defy you to find an English speaking cab driver in Loserville. I had to get the head of the cab company to come to the airport in Loserville, take me to cab waiting area, and after about 75 cabs on a Saturday morning, I found someone.

Now, back to the thread topic, I encountered a similar situation several years ago, the guy was passed out in the drivethru. We thought he was drunk, but it a MAJOR heart problem.

Charlie will look really silly if his rules mean no tolerance for some players (kicked off the team for any tiny violation) and then mean plenty of tolerance for key starting offensive linemen.

Also, I hope everyone here talking about second chances agree that all the players in 2014 that were kicked off for smoking weed one time or anything else deseved a second chance as well.

Actually the reason they were kicked off after the "one mistake" was because there were records of them failing , sometimes multiple times, in the past

    77,

It was my understanding that the 2014 players had been given more than one chance, some three or four.

In the early 70s, the joke was that Coach Royal had a team meeting and which there were large trashcans outside the door. You were to place all your drugs, pipes, bongs in there for safekeeping until the season was over. Hell, one of the team tutors (associate professor) was a dealer.

Okay, so it is forever decided by the fans that if Charlie does not discipline a player, he has never ever failed in the past whether that is true or not and we know for a fact any player that is kicked off got in trouble 4 times. The moral is, no matter what, Charlie is right and consistent. Got it.

Right H, let's not let facts get in the way.
The 4-5 times the player messed up was prior to Strong being coach.

Pretty easy for those of us who finally bailed on Austin after the transformation to Cali Jr. was no longer deniable or tolerable.

Yes, I agree that Charlie will lose credibility if he is not consistent based off player ability. Are you saying you know that the 2014 players had NOT had any previous issues or that you know Perkins HAS had previous issues? They don't compare unless they are actually similar. You can't just put two things together and say they are the same unless they are.

It sounds like you are assuming that the 2014 players didn't have previous issues or the you know Perkins has.

The whole point is things are comparable if they actually have meaningful parallels. Do you see the tweets of Baylor people comparing Charlie/Perkins to Rape/Baylor? They don't compare. And you should only accuse someone of being inconsistent if the compared instances are similar.

That doesn't excuse Charlie. But until we know Charlie has been inconsistent, why judge? There's no pattern that is proven yet.

What facts? As X Mis Tx points out above, we dont actually know whether players have messed up or how often (Unless NRHorn is on the coaching staff?) How can there be facts if we do not know? I am just clarifying, based on the posts above, as fans we are now deciding to 100% assume that if a player is kicked off it is after 4 or 5 mess ups and if they are not kicked off, must be a second chance.

That said, it was my understanding from this board, there would be no tolerance for any tomfoolery in Strong's new culture. I guess I was mistaken about the strictness of the core vaules. I now know that every player gets at least one do over in core values moving forward (and maybe 4 or 5 do overs?).

    1) When it comes to being kicked off the team, it depends on the infraction. You just don't kick every kid off the team for every infraction in the name of values. The law is set up the same way. The law deals with first time offenders very differently than repeat offenders. That's wisdom and justice.
    2) I don't think integrity related to Core Values requires 100% perfection forever, all the time with exacted punishment every time. A cop isn't a bad cop if they check your record before walking up to the car, then letting you off with a warning.
    3) I don't see a need to criticize when you don't have evidence of a pattern.

    Ok H,
To clarify no I'm not on the UT coaching staff

    1honesty- no evidence Perkins lied
2-treating women with respect- unless he said something to the young lady serving the Canes chicken I can't see how this could've been broken
    3 no drugs- ....check
4 no stealing no evidence he stole the chicken
    5 no weapons ....check

You've made it cristal clear that you don't like strong and I get it but when I said don't let the facts get in the way look through one through five again, my friend, that's what I'm talking about

I have never met Strong. As far as I can tell, he is a great person. I like when he wins football games and do not like when he loses.

My problem, as I have said before in long rants, is with our fans acting like aggy with aggy codes of honor, culture nonsense, wait until next year, excuses, etc. It is our fans that over do it in an aggyesque manner that bothers me, not Strong (though as a recent grad, I do still oppose the making players live in dorms for 3 years policy and I think too many contributors were kicked off for probably minor things. I do not think it is fair to the players to have to live in a dorm 3 years and not be able to smoke weed when regular students around them do not have to follow these policies.)
