"... from a defensive back I have ever seen"

That was the comment when number 2 Kris Boyd inexplicably stopped and let a wide receiver run right by him for one of ou's many deep passes.
This kind of stupid careless **** is the calling card of Kris Boyd. And that could lead very well have been the difference in the ball game,. He was in position and could have made the play.
And yet he continues to see time. And that is on The coaches for excusing it. Strong deserved to lose this game for a mountain of little reasons like number 2. and deserves whatever else happens from here.

I remember this exact play. I remember thinking "why the hell did he just stop?"

I'm not defending the coaches here, but by whom do you suggest he be replaced? I've repeatedly seen Evans, Hill, Davis, etc. make similar, though granted, not quite as egregious displays of incompetence? Regardless of scheme or coaching, no team in the world will be successful when the players, for what ever reason, have their head up their collective asses.

Said same thing to wife when it happened. Would actually like to hear the answer from him. I know that is a ridiculous wish but would genuinely like to know what was happening in his mind at the time. I mean was he thinking that the receiver stopped, or that it was somehow going to be a run, what exactly? But I certainly don't put the game on that one play. There were too many others to do that.

I think he should be replaced with one of Strong's super talented recruits who I have been told are the most talented players ever.

Maybe Burt should play defensive back. He seems to be pretty good at making sure a pass is not completed.

That #7 DB from OU should be given a million dollars to teach our secondary how to play.....best player on the field yesterday....broke up I don't know how many passes.

It was as if, for whatever reason, Boyd thought the receiver was cutting off his route there and he turned to locate the ball.
And then it was, "Oh ****, he's still running!".
All I can think of is the receiver said,"Hey Boyd, here comes the ball".
Or he faked him out with eye movement or something.
Strong should tell the DBs to tackle the receiver if they aren't sure.
Take the penalty rather than letting them score.

Basics of DB play when you have no safety help---EYES ON THE RECEIVER, NOT THE BALL.

While I completely agree and thought so at the time, Boyd was not the Lone Ranger. Holton Hill, our best CB IMO, was faked out of his jock on a play when he, like Boyd, seemed to be looking back, perhaps believing that they would be needed for run support. If that was the case, while it's not an excuse, it is understandable. After all, we certainly couldn't stop the run. In fact, for much of the game we couldn't stop anything.

Who is this Hill you speak of? If you are referring to the person wearing jersey #5, I refer to him as "Dresden", since that is the only place I know with more bombs dropped on it.

Almost as bad was letting Bakerfield waltz into the endzone completely untouched after he was limping around pretending to be hurt. Even Stevie wonder could see it was going to be a QB keeper yet none of our players or coaches recognized it.

Haines' aingle on Westbrooks medium route catch & run TD was pretty unbelievably awful too.

Having your head up your *** is a medical term frequently referred to as a "recto-cranial inversion". It is a serious condition which frequently results in a demotion to the second team.

DS or anyone that might know.

Since it has long been common for the bench to yell "ball" while it is in the air, so the DB can turn to play the ball rather than receiver, and since the play was on our sideline, I wonder if anyone (or several) yelled at Boyd on that play causing him to stop and look for the ball. Other than that, I have no idea what he was doing.

At least Haine's got 2 pics. They were right to them, but others have had stone hands in that situation.

    Wadster,

True this, but also Dylan knew where the ball was, which is a rarity for this group of DBs. Too bad we don't have someone on staff who played DB at this level to coach em up. Lots of talent, very little knowledge it appears.

This is exactly how they should play. Look at the games so far this year. Most of them let a WR behind them, running free, while they are looking back at the QB.

If there is no pressure on the QB, a receiver will get behind the secondary at some point.
Three man DL allowed OU to run and pass on us. What a terrible defensive game plan.

I hate the 3 man line. It seems so inconsistent. Even if they get a sack on one play, the next play the QB seems to have all day to find an open receiver 20 yards down field.

This obviously was a good strategy as it resulted in the second interception. How the officials missed that one I'll never know.

    Slowrider,

I have not watched the recording of the game, but as I recall, the DB and WR got their feet tangled up and both went to the ground, rather than the DB tackling the WR. Are we talking about the same play?

I can't believe that refugee from Philadelphia and the Big Sky conference would miss any opportunity to have his face on TV announcing a call.

The pass would have been way over that guy's head anyway. Maybe the refs were going with "uncatchable" as their reason for not throwing that flag? If it had been normal interference, I'd easily defend the officiating choice that the pass was uncatcahble by the guy who got interfered with. In this case, the guy was flat-out tackled, so I'm not sure if the same rule still applies. But I think it does - interference is interference, right? Unless someone wants to argue that it was a dirty play that should have drawn a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct foul.
