Founded or sparked? There was a lot that went wrong in Ferguson but the officer was absolved of a crime. That doesn't mean that the pent up frustration of BLM is any less real. I'd argue the Taveon Martin case is a better example of the criminal justice system not serving the black community but there are plenty examples of the justice system not meeting out it's punishment fairly between races. That's what the BLM movement is founded on. Some of their tactics should be challenged (i.e. the black women who pushed Sanders off stage in Seattle because he wasn't black) but the issue is backed up by both data and anecdotal driven evidence.

We have to be careful in conflating two very different topics. The distrust between black people and cops is a very different animal than the disdain and hostility that white supremacist have for black people.

There may be some racist on the force and there was historical racism in many police forces but most of the times a black person ends up dead after an encounter with a cop, it is due to distrust on both sides and not racism. You could say that it is prejudice but you have assign blame for prejudice to both sides.

Both sides pre-judge each other in those encounters and the encounter becomes self-fulfilling for both because they are hostile and distrustful of each other. The man selling cigarettes didn't die because he was selling cigarettes, he died because both sides escalated the event out of distrust. He resisted arrest and in the effort to subdue, he died. Either side could have handled it better and the outcome could have been different. Cops aren't blameless in these type encounters but neither are the perpetrators that escalate the event and resist arrest.

When you escalate an event and resist arrest, you always run the risk of that escalation spiraling out of control to the point that someone dies.

This is the typical deflect and pretend that racism doesn't exist Bull S**T that I'm talking about from most white people. So, a police officer putting an unarmed black man Eric Garner in a choke hold and choking him to death is because of distrust? Or the Ohio police department shooting an innocent black 13 year old carrying a toy gun only seconds of arriving on the scene. Or the Minnesota cop killing a innocent black man who had a legal right to carry a gun after the black man told the police officer he had a legal permit to carry it.

Those are just a few examples of the police killing innocent black people not because of some damn distrust from police but because of blatant Racism. And these examples are why black people rightfully don't trust the police. Every police department in America is part of the racist system in this country. But just keep ignoring, deflecting, dismissing and pretending a Racist system doesn't exist.

Policing is a lot harder than it used to be.

And there’s one big reason — it’s the elephant in the room but it’s as simple as this: the breakdown of the black family.

When I was growing up, the majority of black households had both parents present which made for a much more stable community. Like me, they were taught respect for authority. Therefore, the police were looked up to as guardians. Likewise, the officers knew the families on their beats and offered their protection.

But that connection is gone. Seventy percent of black kids are born into a single-parent home. Without fathers, these kids are growing up with no respect for their parents, going to school with no respect for their teachers, and hitting the streets with no respect for authority. That attitude grows like a weed throughout the rest of their lives

(the above is a quote from David Clarke, Jr. who is black)

I get that black people have a reason to distrust cops but...

    1. Garner was clearly resisting arrest. Very tragic that he died but he should have done as commanded and submitted to the arrest. If he had a beef with the charge, his chance to complain was later
    2. My 13 yr old was 5'10" so while 13 is a child, it may not look like a child. I agree that these officers should have been slower on the trigger, but rolling up on someone holding a gun puts you on edge.

I don't remember the details on the other one, but announcing I have a permit doesn't mean that you don't still have to listen to commands. I've had a DPS guy pull his pistol on me once when I was lost and pulled in behind him when he had another vehicle stopped. They are asked to pull people over every day. 99% of the time, the stops are non-events but that one stop that just happens to be of an bad dude on probation and looking at jail time...that might be the one that means they don't go home to their family.

Half the major police forces in this country are run by minorities. The NYPD is now more than half minority. Your diatribe doesn't hold up on any level.

There's a crap ton of middle ground. The black State's Attorney in Florida being pulled over for DWB is pretty classic!

Again, more excuses, dismissing, and denial. And so what if some black police officers are propped up and given the appearance that they actually run something when they don't. And all the other black cops should be embarrassed to be working for a Racist, corrupt system that oppress their own people. The black cops are no different than the white cops.

Most of the denial comes from those deny the statistics that black men commit a disproportionately higher percentage of violent crimes than other races. This is the key root cause of the prejudice that police have towards blacks. I believe there are socioeconomic reasons that lead to black men committing more crimes but we need to address the root cause instead of just over-simplistically calling police (including black police officers) a bunch of racists.

They're a bunch of racist because the entire system is racist. And black people don't commit anymore crime than white people. That Jedi mind trick is always used by white people and police to justify harassing, profiling, and being modern day slave patrols in black communities. Look at history, white people are historically the most violent human beings on earth.

I've always wanted to go to Australia. I hear the reef is deteriorating some, so I want to make a trip in the next five years or so and do some diving. But I'm dreading the flight...

The data says otherwise. Ironic that you accuse others of denial when you deny indisputable crime data.

It is a very cool place. I went a few years ago, stayed in Sydney and then up the east coast to Coff's Harbor. Got to do some very cool whale watching. Hiking in a rain forest one afternoon and they had a freak hail storm. Very odd day. Come up out of the jungle to see a coat of white on everything around us.

Go read a book, hopefully you'll learn something about the aboriginal people.

You're right, history shows that white people have been the most violent people on the face of the earth. I'll give you lots of examples if you would like.

That'd be cool, for sure. I used to really want to go so I could dive (or sit in a cage) with white sharks, but I'm starting to think I can do that in San Diego, or maybe even up here in the Northeast. White sharks are amazing to watch, and they're incredibly evolved, although they do tend to attack and eat seals, many of whom have dark fur. So I'm a little conflicted about that. They do balance it out by occasionally biting white surfers, but that just feels like they're cozying up to the PC crowd.

I am aware of aboriginal people, I am just unaware of what the British are currently doing to them and would like to know. If you do not tell me you are concealing white supremacy and not spreading awareness and therefore are supporting white supremacy. Dont be a supporter of white supremacy and hate! Tell me what the British are currently doing to the aborigines!

Also, I do not know if anyone saw that guy who went swimming in Australia and got attacked by sea lice. It was crazy! I had never heard of sea lice before.

To be fair, Africa has ostriches which are bigger and maybe even more dangerous. I'm not sure if they're super-aggressive, but I do know you don't want to get kicked by one. If it had fangs, I'd be more impressed :D

BTW I was watching a Galapagos Island special where they've proven that Komodo Dragons are poisonous as well, which nobody knew until recently. Basically everything on that island but the turtles can kill you with poison, or at least make you really sick. It'd still be fun to go, just maybe bring a big rifle along.

You do realize the FBI release the numbers to back this up. Example in 2013, 2% of our population which are black males between the age of 14 to 46 committed 52% of all murders here in the US? How is that even possible? As someone mentioned in an earlier post, maybe single parent families? That problem makes it everyone's problem. Here's another stat for you. For every one white guy that rapes a black girl, 117 blacks raped white girls. The numbers are staggering. You will sit their and keep making excuses or being in denial, but until you and other can face the facts the problems and crimes will continue at an alarming rate in that community. You are always playing the victim. Just man up and stop with the excuses and blaming the "white folks" or maybe you'd rather prefer us as the cracka's.

You do realize that history backs up that white people are the most violent human beings on the face of the earth. Who wiped out the Native Americans by rape, murder, and terror? White people did. Who murdered, raped, tortured and enslaved black people for over 500 years? White people did. When slavery ended who formed terrorist groups like the kkk to murder, rape, and terrorize black people? White people did. Who dropped an Atomic bomb on Japan? White people did.

There are more White domestic terrorist in America than any other race. Who's more likely to walk into a school and kill everyone? White people. Who's more likely to walk into a church and kill everyone? White people. What race is more likely to be serial killers in America. White people are. I could go on and on and on but I think you get the point. So you can come with your little stats but I come with facts. White people are the most violent human beings in the world.

Violence against our fellow man is both bipartisan and racially blind. Ebbs and flows exist in society relating to power, poverty, means, etc.
