Thanks for heads up. Great memories!!!!! Sure got tired of the commercials though. Hookem me! Damn I want us to get back to that level.
"Let your nuts hang, *******" If you didn't record it, it will be replayed. Watch Vince's reaction when Leinart says, "I'm happy, I'm content". It's at the 43 minute mark.
I DVRed it when it first came out and finally saw it. I admit i may have shed a tear remembering it. i can't believe its been almost 10 years. That had to be the best championship game of all time and considering the stakes, once of the best sporting events of all time and maybe the best single performance in college football history.
Agreed. What a game, perfect convergence of two great, streaking teams, the setting in the Rose Bowl game, great quarterbacks on top of their game, back and forth scoring, dramatic defensive stop, and the best performance ever by a quarterback in a championship game, in a Rose Bowl game, in two consecutive Rose Bowl games...what else?
Leinart took Ballroom Dancing his final year at USC. Vince demonstrated to Leinart how a Texan does the Two Step. Even without cowboy boots and a cowboy hat on. Yeehaw!
He should have taken How The F Do You Beat Vince Young And The 2005 Longhorns. I don't know who would teach that.
...why? Matt Leinhart played a good game. 29-40, 72.5%, 365 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT Purely as a passer, he arguably had a better game than Vince. The difference was Vince's running ability was like having an extra man on the field, and we also had better defense and special teams.
Who brought their team back from more than a TD down - twice? Who scored a 2 point conversion when everyone in the stands knew the play? Whose team beat the "greatest of all time"? Only one stat counts.
I had a setup date with a woman who was a USC grad, and who had gone with friends to that game. this would have probably been around '09 or so. She was talking about how all of them were so upset that they'd played so well all year and the game that mattered most was the one where they "didn't show up." Needless to say, there was no second date.
I agree. I am just telling you what the USC guys say They have their own social network among the business class in Calif
Are you kidding me? ....what delusional fans! IMO the Trojans played a hell of a game but simply got beat by a better team.
All of the Trojans played well on offense, save one boneheaded play by Bush. They did the best they could on defense, which, like everybody else that year, simply wasn't good enough.
That USC team shouldn't even be mentioned near any "greatest of all time" lists because of their defense alone. Teams that are generally considered that good are well-rounded. USC's defense was very "meh" all year, culminating in a final #48 ranking, and nearly giving away a game to Fresno because of their D, despite like 500 apy from Bush (the game that won him the Heisman). I think if you take away the muffed punt on the first drive of the game, and if VY tucks it a bit more in the 2nd/3rd quarters instead of throwing into traffic, we end up dominating the stat board and winning by 14+.
I remember talking to an elder Texan mentor of mine about 2 weeks out (although he allegedly always pulled for the Horns whenever I would be around his family I think he really was a closeted aggy) and he suggested that USC would be just too good for the Horns. I told him: "USC hasn't seen the team speed that Texas has on defense, particularly the DBs." Remember the opening chatter between Fouts and Keith Jackson, who chuckled and noted: "Watching the Texas defense warm up --- looks like a track meet out their with their defensive backs going through drills." With a game for the ages by one Vincent Young, a sure handed outlet for him in tough spots by Thomas at tight end, and that "track team" of DBs, well ...
Seriously USC almost lost to Fresno St. Giving Bush all those kick off return ops is what gave him 500 yards and the ****** tackling made him look all world. VY should have won the Heisman. The end.
Re-watching this game tonight and David Thomas was so reliable and productive for us. Maybe we will have another great TE like that again one day.
