Does anybody recall a restaurant on Manor Road, first block east of Interregional (I-35 for younger 'Horns)? It was a white building on the south side of Manor. There were deer antlers and stuffed critters all over the walls. Had high backed booths, great chicken fried steaks and the colder beer in town. The place closed in the early 1970's when UT or the State Government cancelled all those old leases for buildings and parking lots. My friends and I have broken our minds trying to remember the name. Can anybody help?

Hello, I grew up on lafayette which is right off manor road.
The name of the restaurant you are referring to is Fritz's Barn, it was right next to
Hage's Hardeware store which was on the corner of manor rd and interrigional. It
served home cooking at its best. At one time it had separate eating and bathroom for black and white.

    LHC thanks for playing!

Our esteemed judges voted your response the worst answer to the OP question. When is the last time you visited a Dairy Queen anywhere that had critters of all kinds on the wall, good food and the coldest beer in town!!? :beertoast:

Who remembers Virginia's on Oltorf? Also, a drive-in on South Lamar. Not far from current El Mat. On the west side of road. Fried shrimp and oysters by the piece and honor system cold beer? Name. Catolico, it isn't DQ

Who remembers Night Hawk Steak House on Guadalupe? Ate there often before and after games. Not sure when they disappeared...

Anyone remember a little family style place on south 1st, IIRC, I think only open Mon-Tue-Wed, or Mon-Wed-Fri, something like that just 3 days a week. Two women ran it, they served one or two entrees (I recall fried chicken) and a few fresh veggies, homemade bread, all brought out to the big table and everyone would pass it around. Big glasses of iced tea. This was in the 80s. I think it was like $5 a person and all you wanted to eat. That **** was fine.
