Sticking with Ehlinger? This loss “feels different”. This guy is going to go 7-6 three years in a row.... if he is lucky.
The first quarter? You scored 7 in the second half and 0 in the 4th quarter! After an hour rain delay, your defense could not stop the first play. What do you mean just the first quarter Mr. Mensa?
TH isn’t going to be fired any time soon. Not this year or next year or the year after that. He’ll get 5 years to turn it around. And, if you think about it, what decent coach would want to come to a place that fired its coach this quick? It seems like over reacting is what we’re best at.
Damn, Tom Herman is not a very good coach if he thought that what he saw from Sam in the 4th was good? Sam is a horrible passer, especially on the short passes, he almost never puts the ball in a place where the receiver can catch it and do something with it. When the game was on the line, he reverted back to the lame duck passes he offered up against OSU, and Tech. This kid has learned nothing from last year, and obviously neither have the coaches. You can't blame the oline for this loss, this was all on the QB and the coaches.
Any DECENT coach would realize that he needs to own the debacle that we all witnessed and would know that such crap is not tolerated. Any DECENT coach would not be sticking with what clearly DOES NOT work and would have been taking steps to remedy the problem. Based upon today's presser, it does not appear we have a DECENT coach and a DECENT coach would realize they would be an upgrade...
I'm not taking the bait. Gonna stay true to self ... short of criminal activity ... or highly immoral activity (cheating on wife) ... he should get 3 full seasons. (what Charlie got) Then we re-evaluate.
I don't know about pizza. Maybe he kissed all of them and told them how much he loved them. What he did not do was make any adjustments on offense (unless you call 2 interceptions and a fumble an "adjustment"), or defense (he - Orlando - has still not figured out how to stop a run around either end). 3 of 15 first down conversions on 3d down. 4-8.
don't get me wrong ... I'm not "HIGH" on Herman ... but <3 years without an Art Briles activity ... et al ... just isn't good for the University. Just learn to enjoy the side shows this year ... and probably next year. Start looking at the HS sophomores and understand the seniors '19 are not going to be blue chip. ... and that we'll be looking for our 7th coach since the Legend before the next POTUS election.
Calls to fire Herman after a loss to a highly motivated Power 5 opponent after a great year of recruiting, facilities improvements and no scandals is sadly, par for the course on message boards. We can still have a great season.
Coaching like Charlie Strong and politicking like John Mackovik is not a winning recipe at the University of Texas at Austin. Just sayin.
Define "decent". If you mean breathing, not hooked up to a machine to stay alive, it would be easier to name those that do not want the job (Saban, Patterson, Petersen, possibly Kirby Smart). Fan bases at every school with any tradition will demand a quality product, a standard of behavior from their coach including no demeaning attitude and/or pompous arrogance to a totally obnoxious level. I wanted Herman to be hired, but am now ready for him to go away, quietly or otherwise. He brought this upon himself. Losing the opening game two years in a row to an also ran, second tier team from a miserable BigTen is not now. nor ever will be acceptable. Mack Brown was "the most hard headed son of a ***** you'll ever meet" and could be incredibly arrogant at times; yet, he had the ability to make you like it. Herman apparently can't make you like winning because of his personality. Poor fundamentals. pathetic use of personnel, infantile playing calling all wreak of elementary school games, except my ten year old grandson was calling Herman out in the first quarter. As I've said before: 1) Win 8, get the gate (not sure he can do that) 2) Any chance of excellence this season rides on Rising starting, certainly the OU game.
The problem is that the outlook for a great season just took a severe nosedive off a very high cliff.
If you mean that calling for TH to be fired right now, then OK. On the other hand, if you're saying that its an over reaction to think that the Horns' chances of getting back to greatness with Herman head coach just went bye-bye, then I disagree. The belief that Herman can and will bring Texas to football greatness has no basis in the football reality we've seen since he's been here. What we saw Saturday is more of what we saw in six games last year. What we saw in the post game presser, and now in the two deep for Tulsa is just more of the same. Sam will have a good game against Tulsa. Shane would have a good game against Tulsa. Its Tulsa for god's sake. What matters is how will SE perform against good opponents in close games, start to finish. If Sam is still starting after OU, it better be because he's earned it, and there is no doubt about it. But if SE hasn't clearly earned his playing time, And he's still starting, then will it be over reacting to post that TH isn't earning his $96k per week paycheck, and should be shown the door?
I am going to be upset if Sam starts against Tulsa. I was calling for Buchele to start against Maryland. Then i believe we would have won. I said it before i will say it again let Boo be the starter and let Sam play some. Hmmm I think I am a better coach than Herman I can make better decisions than he. I'll take the 5 million and do a better job. I would bring Gilbert back if it's possible. I feel better now.
I agree with SH. I’m baffled as to why Tommy Boy is obsessed with Sam, or seems to be. The kid is definitely a football player but as one columnist wrote yesterday, perhaps he would be a better fit at H back or LB. It seems obvious to me that he lacks the judgment, and the throwing skill set, for the position. I would like to see Buechele start against Tulsa, and also see some series for Rising. Buechele will not be as effective at avoiding the rush as SE — perhaps an issue, but I have much more confidence in his arm, his accuracy, and what’s between his ears.
If we need one drive to score, now every team has the blueprint. Rush 2, drop 9 and watch Texas have 3 OLinemen standing around doing nothing. How do you win 8 on 11? You yell fire, have those 3 inside OLinemen take off brlocking downfield and send the QB behind them. You have to make someone pay for a defense like that, not play right into it. I don't care who our QB is, they aren't going to complete many passes throwing into a 9 man coverage.
The OU game will be 53 weeks since I first started this campaign. I don't know the kid, but he was the only QB in the Spring Game that could read the defense. He may not be "all that", but if you continue to start a QB that can't read the defense, not to mention hit a wide open receiver, and continually under throw the deep ball by 10+ yards, you don't have much chance to win, even against a defense coached by Mike Stoops.
And what was that read option we ran a couple of times. Never in all my life have I seen a play develop that slow. Good grief. It was embarrassing to watch.
Actually, I did not want to fire him until he said in the press conference he is sticking with Ehlinger all the way. When he said “I refuse to fix a major problem”, that’s when I became done with him. We now have 11 games where I have to hope flukes happen and Ehlinger actually wins a game at the end.
