OU's offense is to potent for our defense to stop and I believe that Boyd will be picked on in this game. The offense will score but not enough to overcome them. Sam will miss three wide open receivers that would have scored. Texas - 23 OU - 45
Texas 24, OU 17. Texas grinds out many long drives against the already worn out (190 plays the last 2 weeks) OU “defense”. OU offense plagued by turnovers against aggressive, focused, talented & fired-up defense. I’m a pessimist, clearly, but history has shown Texas to have been the more focused team in this matchup for the last 5 straight years. OU has barely won or lost each time despite having the clearly overall better squad each time. This year I think the teams are far closer in quality to each other than in any of the 2013-2017 matchups, which, coupled with the above paragraph spells big trouble for OU.
Yeah, Kyler Murray is what gives me some amount of hope. But he’s also a 1st-time starter in the RRR, which is very dicey in OU history. Heupel, Bomar, Jones, Bell, Mayfield, Gundy, and many more all lost their 1st RRR. And a few of them were actually good QBs
This is one thing that concerns me: That our offense is a grind it out design. We will need some long plays, quick strikes to keep up with the bombers from ou. And I don't see how we do that. If our defense was up against a grind it out offense, I think they would hold ou under 30. That's not the case. Our offense must play mistake free to grind out long drives. All it takes is one bad play or big penalty to get us behind the chains. Do we have the big play potential? Sure. Are the odds with us in being consistent enough to grind it? We scored 10 offensive points against ksu. Is ou's D as good as ksu's. Yes it is. I think we will score more than 10, but not more than 25. i hope I'm wrong.
Based on the list of last week’s predictions it looks like we still need to hear from these folks. @Horns R Back @Horngal12 @mb227 @Run Pincher @Austin_Bill @nashhorn @Crockett @Badass @2003TexasGrad @hookem245 @uisge beatha Get yer dadgum predictions in people! We've done ok with the following: 1) A game will be played 2) A fanbase will be gruntled 3) ??? 4) Profit I am, however, abstaining from attaching numbers to this one.
OU 31 UT 17 UNLESS, we can gain 200 yds on the ground & press KM outside his comfort zone.....but, that’s a BIG UNLESS!!
Murray is a straight BALLER!!! I seen this young man play in high school and OWN Jerry's world. This is a home game for him. He thrives on the big stage. If our defense figures out how to stop him in the 1st qtr and doesn't get tired in the forth quarter while keeping him in check and if our offense/defense/special teams can score 40 plus points we win. If not, OU 45 TX 17
Thus far, the five previous Sooners foes have compiled a collective record of 9-14, and Oklahoma is one of only two top 10 teams yet to face ranked competition 90th in total defense — 405.2 95th in passing yards allowed per game — 252.4 99th in third-down defense — .424 116th in first downs allowed — 119 T-121st (last) in red-zone defense — 16/16, 13 TD Sometimes we overthink things. If we sit back, ignore headlines and came in purely judging from a football standpoint...here would be my conclusion... OU has played weak opposition and not been tested. They have an extremely potent offense but recent history shows UT can contain them under season averages. I believe, while OU has a superior offense, the disparity between our offense and their defense is greater (to our advantage)than vice versa. I also believe their great offensive scheming tends to make their overall system and quality top to bottom appear better than it is. Overall, it seems Texas has a more well-rounded team and has been tested...I see Texas with more likely avenues to victory and the least likely outcome being an OU rout of Texas. A OU victory won't suprise....but I'm feelin first to 30 wins it. That will be those wearing burnt orange. Regardless of outcome today...I strongly believe good things are coming over next few years for Texas and UT fans regarding this rivalry. Just my 3 cents. Have fun boyz...(and girls)
Thanks Stat. I was in a hurry...missed that one. I edited it. Think the real point here is they haven't been battle tested, offense (though potent) has benefitted from lower competition level, and defense is atrocious.
*Edit: Looks like @IvanDiabloHorn was closest. Congrats to IDH. I bow to those hornfans who had us scoring over 35, and over 40. After the poor O showing against KSU, I just didn't see how we could do that. Boy was I wrong!
