Jamison lacks the length Orlando seems to prefer in corners but he's probably the fastest and quickest guy on the roster. If Jake Smith and Demarion Houston show up ready to play as true freshman maybe Herman will let Jamison go back to DB.

You have to live in SoCal to understand USC and recruiting - they get whoever they want and if somehow that person escapes, the next guy is just as good. Texas HS ball is the best as a state, but the Southern Section of the CIF is the best region in the country. Talent just oozes out there.

Bucky Godbolt was talking about James Franklin from Penn State to USC. Don't know if that would happen but I thought it was interesting.

I'm still wondering why UT hired Strong instead of Franklin if it 100% was a legacy hire.

Apparently his buyout is a modest $1M

TFB thinks that if we do land JUCO DE Jacoby Jones that will be it for us for the 2019 DL (exception made for Leal)

Lynn Swann is all in on Franklin, but hardly anyone else around Figueroa is. Most prefer Del Rio, whom I think would be a great hire.

As far as Franklin coming to Austin, the guy has enough baggage for my entire section in Memorial Stadium to go on a two week cruise. I shall never believe Strong was even a mediocre hire much less better, but we dodged a bullet if those two idiots considering Frankliin.

For the purpose of removing any ambiguity, I would be OK if we landed McCoy.

Ok. I don't know anything about Franklin's background.

Jacoby Jones is an EE. With the departures of Charles Omenihu and Breckyn Hager, he will have a chance to make an early impact.

This is the second straight year we have flipped an ou commit. We are still No. 7 in the national rankings but first in the Big 12.

IMO, Swann has no idea what he's doing.

Neither did Cunningham when he hired Mackovic NOR

Powers when he hired Strong NOR

Patterson when he gave those absurd Draconian contracts to the coaches

Having no idea what they were doing didn't stop them.

I suspect Patterson still sees it as Mission Accomplished

We could probably seal the deal if Bru's dad once shared a room in a Holiday Inn Express with a Shipley

It will be interesting to see how DL shakes out.

From the 2018 Class Ossai is looking great at B-backer but may grow into a DE. I know the recruiting line on Floyd is that he is a inside linebacker, but he's big and scary as an edge rusher and that's where I'd be most excited to see us put his speed to use.

J Jones, Sweat and Warren this year and Williams and Carson from last year are strong side end material that may eventually show muscle enough to play any of the three line positions. (Watching highlights, I see how Sweat likes to light people up as a blocker... damn he could have been one hell of a wishbone era pulling guard). If everybody, or most everybody develops, we could rotate and never get too tired to put pressure on the passer. Plus, you never know what 3 star will blossom into a Brian Robison or Kiki de Ayala who can dominate a game.

Kiki's stats were so sick they don't even seem real. It's as if they were too good to be true.

OTackles weren't near as good on pass blocking back then either. Still predominantly a run 1st league back then. Still Kiki had the edge speed few did.

By the way Jones' film reminds me of De Ayala's. Kid can evade OL or shuck a blocker and chase down a passer.

Totally agree. Patterson was brought in to save as much money as he could and find a place and a means to pay for the new basketball arena. Unfortunately for Texas, it was worse than mission unaccomplished.

    Here is BON on him

"..... As a freshman, Ossai has played in every game, mostly on special teams, but he’s a player that defensive coordinator Todd Orlando has increasingly tried to get on the field. Against the Cyclones, it paid off, as Ossai had two other tackles in addition to his big play late.

Since Ossai hasn’t seen a great deal of playing time at B-backer, I asked Orlando what makes Ossai special.

“Obviously he’s a really long guy, but he’s really quick twitch, very powerful,” Orlando said on Tuesday. “When he plays long — that’s the one thing that I probably didn’t give Joe enough credit for when we were recruiting him — when he throws out of his hips, he’s a really powerful guy.”

So the physical attributes are there for the native of Nigeria who didn’t see a football game until he was 10 years old. Ossai grew up playing soccer and running track, then split his time with basketball in high school. As a freshman, he played safety at Conroe before transferring to Oak Ridge and spinning down to linebacker.

Ossai was able to pick up the game quickly because Orlando describes him as one of the most conscientious players on the team. Throughout the season, Orlando has praised the preparation ability and dedication of freshman safeties Caden Sterns and BJ Foster and said that Ossai works even harder. No small compliment.

Intelligence helps, too — Ossai was a two-time Academic All-District selection in high school.

Of course, he’s not just a nice kid playing football.

“He’s got a little bit of a mean streak to him, too, that you really can’t coach,” Orlando said......"

Why Texas B-backer Joseph Ossai could emerge as an impact pass rusher

The guru consensus seems to be that we have five spots left.
