They don’t want the taint to spread to them.

Rainwater, it would seem, but there is a lot of fear and futility. It took NCAA 5 years to find out Bush’s family paid no rent in SD. Simple, show me a check took 5 years. The DMN writer that broke the aTm pay deal in 90’s had to move, lost job, had many MANY death threats. Not worth it. Irony was they were using ATM cards. I never knew aTm was named for a cash machine till then.

I agree, that maybe the best comparison. one thing I liked about Priest was that he had the will, work ethic and desire to succeed.

Yeah I was drunk. I meant Bijan will have the impact Ricky had on the program. You're right hes more Charles or Holmes in style but those guys didn't have the program impact Ricky had.

Probably still wishful thinking but hey, its still the summer.

Recruits do not tend to report their egos are being puffed-up until well after the fact, then they tend to be discreet so they do not embarass themselves.

I will say Bijan is very close to Ricky speed and I think he has that vision and first step cut. Not sure he will bulk up as much. I will settle for Ricky light any day.

No sweat, we've all been there. I personally thought that Ricky's biggest impact didn't really happen until his junior year. As a freshmen and sophomore he was a full back and Shon Mitchell was the tailback. Priest at the time had a torn ACL.

It was after Shon and Priest left that Ricky became the man and made his impact on the program.

Jamal on the other hand had a huge impact his freshmen year all they way through to his Junior year. Also Benson had a big impact his freshmen year as well. Those are all the RBs I can think of that really came in and made a big impact their freshmen year.

I will also add that we really don't need Bijan to be Ricky, Benson or Jamal as a freshmen, we just need him to be the 2nd or 3 back off the bench to spell Ingram. Ingram will be a junior and should have a very productive season barring any injuries. Bijan is an amazing talent we haven't had in a long time. He is going to be a lot of fun to watch, especially behind our offensive line.

I hope they don't spread their taint for anyone.

    Sorry. Just too easy.

One observation about running backs, unlike other positions, especially QB:

Their ability is almost always revealed immediately, in just the first few carries. If they’re special, you can see it, even if they continue to develop. That was the case for every great Texas back I can remember.

One interesting case was Foreman, from whom I had expected nothing. He came in and immediately you could tell he was special, even though CS delayed giving him the reigns for a long while. Foreman was a huge surprise.

I was lucky enough to see Ricky’s first game in Honolulu. It was obvious... And so it goes.

I’m conflicted on Ingram. He didn’t wow me early last year but he did impress. However, he didn’t evolve as I had expected so how he does this year will be interesting.

Even before Ingram's injury , he didn't look special out of the gate, like great ones do. Not that he won't be very good.....He just isn't a difference maker like the great ones are. He needs to be good enough to take the rushing game off Sam's shoulders.

Watching LL regionals... They said MSU allowed the LL team from Mississippi to use their team bus to come to Waco for the tournament...... Is that not an NCAA violation ? Schmoozing future recruits......Just asking..... LOL

I recently watched much of the Bijan film out there, pending his announcement later today.

    My take:

He shows exceptional skills in traffic, including field vision, quick cuts, and acceleration. He rapidly finds the open space/hole and accelerates to and through it. While I wouldn't call him a 'power back', he has a somewhat squatty build that makes him harder to bring down than your average RB. Obviously, he's very fast. He's also going to be very dangerous catching passes out of the backfield. The RB camp film shows his ***** level route-running and catching ability.

He's a 'good at everything' / total package sort of RB that cannot be easily categorized as a scat-back, power-back, etc.

    Just a note on Ingram....
Last I heard/read, he had put on appx. 20lbs (mostly muscle) since January.

I’ve said this many times before but from what I have observed, more muscle doesn’t necessarily = improved performance in a RB. To me recent examples of this “often inverse relationship” might be Chris Warren and Daniel Young. Hopefully in the case of Ingram the added pounds will translate into greater production and stamina. But if a kid’s already reasonably strong, I’d opt for improved flexibility and speed...

Like TFB, Inside Texas is sticking with their prediction of Chris Thompson, Jr. to Texas.

But he did move his announcement back. TFB has again said the delay is due to the video

    -------------
Jerrin Thompson is, likewise, supposed to be working on his video -- which wont be ready until the weekend or maybe next week

I'm with you....typically, Duke. You make valid points...It does happen.
In Ingram's case, though....looked to me like he could use a little more mass. He has the movement.
Seems Warren was big enough but lacked the movement.
I, like you, want to see if the offseason prep helps his durability....again it can go both ways.
Think we have a great crew working there, though.
