Coming down with a couple buddies this week to check out the Texas-Oklahoma State game as Minnesota has a bye.

Any tips on local bars to visit on game day or area to peruse during for tailgating? We will be staying downtown Austin and will have a car so able to get around easily (assuming heavy traffic).

    Appreciate any info.

    Go Gophers and Hook-em Horns!

Checkout out the fan page at TexasSports.com for DKR stadium info, parking, pregame schedule, etc
Go by Scholtz's early and the tailgates on 19th street lots aka MLK walk thru Bevo Blvd on the west side of DKR, Alumni Center is about midway, wear your MN colors, walk over to LBJ fountain for pregame music and Deep Eddy lounge plus several tailgates, walk and enjoy the area. Go to your seats 45 minutes before kickoff and enjoy the game. Welcome to DKR! Football Fan Guide

DON’T go to “Dirty 6th St” (between Congress & I35). It’s now now the new crime infested area downtown....scores of homeless people on the loose.

After shooting near ARCH, Police Union talks 'violent' 6-block area

I would venture to Rainey St, W 6th or far E 6th (east of I35). Even there, tons of drunks and craziness galore. Downtown Austin on weekends is now essentially Bourbon Street. But, hey, I’m old...so my days of ‘drink til I puke’ are decades past!

And, oh, DON’T drive your car anywhere....take Uber or Lyft. Have fun this weekend....but BUYER BEWARE!!:hookem:

You should definitely assume this, even were it not gameday.

Welcome! Hope you have a good time with your buddies.

Don't know the game day forecast, but you should be prepared for some heat and humidity. Probably in the mid - 90's. You are coming here from a more comfortable Sept. climate, so you may be a bit shocked.

Pecos Bill gave you some good advice.

Scholz's Beer Garten has been around 150 years. It is decent walking distance to the stadium - good grub, great beers, full bar, live music in the evening, big screens. It is a big place but it will get a little crowded pre-game. Good place to go if you don't have a tailgate to attend....

Yep...Will be in Section LDN 12 wearing our Gopher colors. Maroon will blend in with the Burnt Orange pretty good.

    Appreciate all the advice given.

Good to know! Will surely check out Scholz's Beer Garten. And we will be ready for the heat, Minnesota this week has been unseasonably warm with temps in the 80s and dew points in the mid60s. Yes...that is very warm for us Northerners in September.

Gopher, if you come back in February, we may be able to show you some 80s, maybe even 70s

Be sure to check out the new Hall of Fame on the north end of the stadium.

You should see our Houston area winter. It falls on a Tuesday this year.

    maroon? Did you say...maroon?

You know that is a color to be mocked around here, right?

I kid, I kid...well, at least a little...but maroon IS to be mocked. Enjoy your travels and time in Austin though :fiestanana::hookem3:

Great advice. It would be like us wearing red and white to your stadium. Wear the gold.
Oh yeah, and Row the Boat!!!

You are right about that....no Red is ever greeted warmly in Minnesota.

I donned the Gold for the game and had plenty of warm greetings. We were at Scholz pregame for a while and a fun atmosphere for sure. Overall really enjoyed Austin and what you have down here. We took in the first half of the Westlake vs Austin HS game on Friday night before venturing out on the town. Some talented players on the field for sure.

Thanks for all the advice and warm greetings. Hook 'em Horns, Go Gophers, Row the Boat and Ski-U-Mah!
