Add the Arizona schools and Utah and subtract WVa and move on. I believe the article is mistaken on hen the next round could come. It is 2025 (when most of the current third-tier rights expire, not 2035). At that time we could very well see one Power 5 Conference go away with the remaining Power 5 conferences cherry-picking schools with the non-wanted schools going over to the Group of 5 conferences. The two candidates for going away are the Big XII and PAC-12.

Because re-playing the RRS 2 out of every 3 years is dumb.

I don't think we can just kick WVU out of the conference.
I can't see the PAC going away. They are down now, but their ties to the Rose give them precedence I believe. Plus their size. Big 12 seems the natural conference to get blown up. TCU/Baylor would be screwed. State schools would survive.

B12 is much too strong now. The only reason the Pac12 survives is the lack of P5 universities in the mountain time zone. It is a virtual wasteland in college football.

Football isn't the only sport, And there are significant grants and stuff that get tied to conference affiliation as well. No way in the hell the PAC goes away. Too many top notch tier 1 universities. Personally I think all 5 major conferences survive. Move to an 8 team playoff. 5 winners and 3 at large.

It is when it comes to generating revenue for athletics.

Want to know about grants? Look at the cash flow. Grants = $$$

Just show them the cash and all changes, just like aTm.

    1. Total Arizona population (2019) is 7,275,070. There are more people in the Dallas - Fort Worth SMSA, 7,539,711, than in the state of AZ. Can't find an exact count but about 25-30% are transplants, higher (40%) in the winter due to snowbirds.

    2. Don't know, but there are 45,000 students currently attending U of A and 72,000 currently at ASU. Call the registrar's office or alumni association if it's important.

    3. Don't know, and don't care. They aren't sending a bunch of regular students out to compare degree programs, GPAs and play the games.

    4. The demise of the SWC was started by SMU's death penalty back in '86/'87. They are a good fit in the conference they are in. Their fan base doesn't travel well. Also, I am unaware of many if any posters on this board that would be excited to allow SMU back in any conference Texas is in.

If the a raid on the Pac 12 were to result in the Big 12 with 12 teams, SEC the BIG and the ACC with 14, then 9 teams left over from the Pac 12, and the lone WVa dropped from the Big 12 would remain. But, which Pac 12 teams would go to to the SEC, the BIG and ACC? That's a long trip for away games. Some conference realignment would be necessary to allocate the remaining team currently in the BIG, ACC or Big 12 might go to the SEC or BIG and the Big 12 would need an additional 2. Several might be eliminated from the move or new conference alignments altogether. Another thought is to have only 12 teams in each conference which would eliminate 6 teams in three of the remaining CFP conferences.

Another probable realignment is to have an additional conference (six total) and have a playoff with six teams, the winner of each conference, not the best record, but the conference winners only. No more "well Bama didn't make the SEC championship game, but they are in because they are still top ranked" type bull crap. If the kids want to be in the pros, they should have the experience of how the playoffs work in the pros.

How ever the realignment is accomplished, it will be one big cluster F and a lot of folks will be pissed when it is done.

Enough of the ******** statistics which are worthless. Explain how the hell they financially benefit the other schools. Can’t be done. They bring NOTHING to the BigXII, but would absorb 18% of the distributions.

they are **** schools in a **** conference. The PAC regrets having taken them in.

Not the coast to coast Big14 with the AZ schools and USC and Stanford. It would be the dominat conference.

Yeah, I agree. A conference like that isn't going to happen. An aggressive realignment plan has the potential to disrupt traditional rivalries, and increase costs. At this point I doubt any major realignment will happen. I can see maybe the CFP going to 8 with the five conference winners and 3 second place teams that actually played in their respective CCGs filling in the others 3 slots. And, hopefully, the Committee that selects the participants goes away and prevents some team like Bama a couple of years back, missing the CCG completely and yet was in the CFP games.

I'm not concerned about the motivation for them leaving, I look at a few facts.

    1. Both schools are established P-5 schools, both are coming from a P-5 conference.
    2. Arizona as a state is becoming a great recruiting base. producing lots of talent.
    3. Phoenix as a TV market delivers a lot of TV sets that loves football.
    4. U of A delivers big time basketball
    5. ASU delivers sluts and lots of them.

How can we not want them in the Big 12. We lost Colorado and Nebraska, and look how crappy those two schools are. Hell, my biggest wish is we could throw in Utah as well so we can add the Salt Lake City Market and all those Polynesian recruits that live there.

We will see how strong the Big 12 is when the new TV contract is signed and everyone loses money. If the Big 12 contract goes down I guarantee Texas will not stay in the conference.

1 Riddle me this, what is the biggest TV market outside the state of Texas? Kansas city? Oklahoma City? Not exactly a cosmopolitan couple of areas. We lost Denver and St Louis, if you want to keep the TV contracts we need more cities outside of Texas. The SWC proved that a conference just in the state of Texas isn't enough.

    2. Both schools are higher ranked than the majority of the Big 12 schools.

    3. Don't care either. See #2

    4. Revisionist History. The Demise of the SWC started with all the cheating by every school in the conference. At one point every school outside of Rice was on probation. The real demise of the SWC started with all the big time recruits leaving the state to play at other schools that offered the chance to play big time games outside the state.

I would take those **** schools any day over WVU, ISU, KSU, and Baylor any day of the week. This conference is a dead man walking come 2025. Either we add other schools or GTFO of the conference. There is no status quo in this conference.

^^^^THIS. I agree. But I still don't want to part of any conference that believes SMU would be a good fit.

What I would really like to see is Texas inform the Big 12 it is leaving to form a new conference. And then send out invitations to specific schools to join them. I'm sure we can find 11 good schools that bring something to the conference. Candidates include.

blowu, Okie Lite, KU, Tech, TCU, Rice, Utah, BYU, Arizona, ASU, Arkansas, USC, and maybe a few other schools. The thing about TCU and Rice is that they bring the opportunity to have a home game in both Houston and DFW. Arkansas bring back an old rivalry, USC delivers So-Cal. Arizona schools and Utah deliver Phoenix and SLC market and BYU delivers a whole Chuch of about 16 million. Tech, U of A and KU bring excellent basketball.

Best part is every school bring something to the table and the conference would have 3 blue blood programs and the combined recruiting base of Texas Arizona, Utah, and California.

    Divisions would look like this
West: USC, BYU, Utah, ASU, U of A, and Tech
East : Texas, BlowU, Okie Lite, TCU, KU, and Rice/Arkansas.

Pretty balanced in recruiting base and in division of power.

“Enough of the ******** statistics which are worthless.“
Translation: “I don’t have a good argument for my point of view, so I’ll call any stats which argue against my unsupported OPINION as ‘worthless”. Brilliant argument.

“Explain how the hell they financially benefit the other schools.”
Several of us already have (TV market, increased conference footprint, etc). But you chose not to listen. That’s on you.

“They bring NOTHING to the BigXII.”
    Ok. Whatever you say.

“they are **** schools in a **** conference.“
You’ve made your OPINION abundantly clear. Your choice of words is offensive to some of us. Particularly those who have family members who went to those schools, and clearly have a higher IQ then you. So how about you shut your uneducated, know-it-all mouth.

“The PAC regrets having taken them in.”
Where do you get your info? Utter BS.

Sabre, you talk as if you have the inside info on EVERYTHING. It’s exhausting and annoying. I’m sure you have good insight into SOME areas of discussion on this board. You’re entitled to your opinion, but your comments are offensive at times and your fund of knowledge is apparently endless. I didn’t realize that God posted on Hornfans. You’ve even argued with me on medical topics. Dude, tone down your rhetoric and stay in your f**cking lane.

Same goes for you. If you don’t like someone’s posts, there is an Ignore feature that will stop them from showing up. And there is a profanity filter if you don’t want to see offensive language.

My self-censored word was not descriptive of a person or school, which Sabrehorn’s was and thus makes it a bit more inappropriate. That should be self evident. I was not calling the poster a profane name. However Sabrehorn was, and has done so repeatedly. Quite honestly, i’m surprised that poster (Sabrehorn) hasn’t been censored before. I think my reaction is very understandable given the repeated offensive posts by Sabrehorn. I would hope that you will have a word with Sabrehorn. I’m not the only poster who feels this way.
