so we allow 5% more completions than average. so below average? that's not perspective...that's obvious. how many teams in the nfl allow that?

    no, it was his statistic

EDIT: let me clarify...he's using "average" as a statistic (mean to be precise). in the nfl stat he gave, 5% higher than average could still be the middle team (median).

also, to your point...are we an nfl team?

it's just a bad example he gave.

While I generally don’t like them, ‘prevent’ type defenses (or other drop 8 into coverage defenses) can be moderately effective if, and only if, the coverage men consistently make tackles right after the catches are made. You must have consistently sound open field tackling for any hope of this sort of D working. A competent QB (and a well coached WR corps) can still march it down the field, but struggle in the red zone. The QB WILL usually have time to sit back and wait for a WR to break open. It’s the often maligned bend but don’t break philosophy. It also tires out the DL as a decent O will have plenty of sustained drives.

My new binder says it’s generally better to get some pressure on the QB and force early/rushed throws and mistakes and get some drive ending sacks. Of course, I got my new binder at Walgreens by the Halloween candy.

My binder says you have to give multiple looks. You can't drop into cover 2 on every 3rd and long and you can't blitz every 3rd and long. And when you blitz that has to vary. Corner, safety, LB, all need to come with different looks. What we've seen is the same thing over and over and over until last week. Last week we played quite a bit of 4 down lineman. We didn't blitz every 3rd and long. And hello, team did better. Not great, but much better. Orlando's not stupid. He can learn but his time is now. We gotta play much better next 2 weeks or we're not winning.

Well we are the Big 12 so at least we are not in last place.

Muschamp might be available too. If he loses to aggy this weekend, he is definitely on the ropes.

Boom is safe for another year, but has been told big improvement next year or goodbye. Carolina doesn't have the money, and more importantly no qualified candidates.

First, I think the “Boom” wins tomorrow. He seems to have the Aggies’ number.

On the D, to my admittedly unsophisticated eyes, TO doesn’t seem to disguise his calls well. We seem to telegraph everything that we are doing, and that is not an effective strategy.

I’m a big believer is disguising coverages and blitzes. Never tip off what you’re doing. Mix coverages. Play press on one side and back on the other. Play man one play and zone the next. Drop D linemen into passing zones.

Like I said, confuse the offense. We don’t do that and I believe that it is a big reason our D is so inconsistent, and often ineffective.

    And the choir said, "AMEN"

Like I've said for two years, Orlando couldn't disguise a blade of dead San Augustine grass in a wheat field

Why don't you give CDC a call on his personal cell, no doubt you have the number, and arrange a meeting with Orlando. You can teach him how to do it. Problem solved.

First of all, Orlando isn’t going to listen to anyone not named Tom Herman, who will listen to no one. Does Mack Brown sound familiar?

Mack was forced to bring in Dick Tomey as a defensive consultant. Suddenly we have a defense. Even though Dick wasn’t there in 2005, that was his defense, and his teaching that taught Brian Robinson to say “screw it, coaches got it wrong” and break his assignment to stop Lindale White.

the three best at making adjustments were Leon Fuller, Rick Lantz, and Bill Bradley. Bill is in Blanco. I’ve said for two years, contract with his LLC to be a defensive consultant. Problem solved.

Are there any defensive coaches under the age of 70 we can get? I'm worried if one of our guys screws up they will call them a whippersnapper and hit them with their cane.

The nagging question is why he said no

I said this same thing after either ou or KU, or TCU, or all of them, can't remember.

If TH is "the guy", and maybe he is, what is it that great coordinators know on why he hasn't hired any of them?
