183 years ago today, on February 8, 1836, David Crockett arrived in San Antonio. He was 49 years old. He did not know it but he was less than one month away from dying at the Alamo. David considered this to be the best likeness of himself, a fact he confirms in writing at the bottom.

 

When you think about it a 49 year old man was not a spring chicken in 1836.
Took courage and conviction

 

How about a 26 year old with a young daughter and pregnant wife?

 

Several of the defenders were teenagers. Our family had two or maybe three brothers from Tennessee who died in the Alamo. My father has the research info on it. I believe they came from Tennessee. They were between 17-20 years old.

Back about 7 years ago, Travis's famous "Victory or Death" letter to Sam Houston was on display. My wife, baby girl and I drove down to have a look at it. It was faded and displayed in a dim special light, but readable. Great experience.
