Wow. Fantastic hire. That took all of what, 48 hours to announce? I didn't think Schaefer could be hired away. I thought he was waiting on Blair to retire at A&M. Looking forward to hearing what the price tag was.
I am sure the deal was done last week. That is why KA is gone. He had a replacement in hand. One of the players tweeted the story will get better . . .
They are standing too close...6 feet rule !!!!! A great hire. Now hopefully A&M won't hire him away from us later on if he turns out to be our answer against Kim...
I think it's a great hire, but doesn't he play the same style of basketball (although better developed) of KA? He can recruit (although look at the list of players leaving his program just as quickly).
OMG My dreams have come true. Now I believe Texas is committed to winning championships. I am so excited!
Anyone know how many years the deal is for?? I also wonder who he is bringing from his staff. His entire staff or will some positions be open?
I agree that CDC, barring a finish in the final 4 with KA, had in mind that he was looking for a new coach. But, since it's unlikely that MSU has a Longhorn handy at their place to take a picture, makes you wonder WHEN Vic and his family made the trip to Austin for the job interview. Maybe this was wrapped up a month ago and CDC has been sitting on it, timing out the KA announcement, letting the hurt feelings settle and then dropping the news of the hire.
Anyone on twitter looking for Schaefer, he can be found at @CoachVic_UT (quick switch on the social media).
Not that I’m complaining but how did we get away with not posting the job. I thought you had to. Just curious.
It may have been posted, but the public missed it. My wife used to work for UT-Austin. And they wanted to hire a senior manager in their engineering (non-academic) department. They had an agreement with this guy, but they were going to post the job listing like at 11:50 pm and then pull it at midnight. They were coaching him (on the phone) on when to look for the posting and apply online. The reason they did this is that by law, they have to look over the resumes of all people who apply. This 10 minute window made sure they didn't get too many applications to sort through. Now saying that, I've been in debates where people have said that state law says a job posting has to be up for X hours/days. So then my story wouldn't apply. I just know what my wife experienced. Shrug?
