^^^^ We can hope so for the teams and fans... what is the Austin forecast for Saturday eve? This will be an unprecedented game in modern times. Perhaps weird or surreal. Both pre-game and during the game.... only about 25K fans will attend, most if not all wearing a mask, socially distanced in the stands, crowd noise (in masks with muffled voices) more like a HS game than DKR at 100K. Maybe other weird / odd factors I have not thought of. Perhaps the LHB, cheerleaders, Bevo, Smokey & new scoreboard with obnoxiously loud "music" and screaming ads will make it feel like a normal game just a lot less fans.
No band for UTEP game- AARGH!! "Longhorn Band In consultation with university leadership, the faculty of the College of Fine Arts, band leadership and Athletics, the Longhorn Band will not perform at the Sept. 12 vs. UTEP game. Their participation for future home games will be determined at a later date as more case studies are analyzed on ensuring a safe environment for everyone. Consultation with Dr. Amy Young revealed that there is not yet good research or even well understood case studies of the COVID risks associated with instrumentalists performing in close proximity, when outdoors. A laboratory study of aerosolization from musical instruments is underway at the University of Colorado and the University of Maryland. The LHB faculty and staff will not know until later this week how many LHB students are willing and available to perform this season. The band under the best-case scenario will have to be reduced to not more than 60 performing musicians, and it is yet to be determined whether a well-balanced band can be assembled from available student musicians. There’s little more than a week before Sept. 12 to rehearse a reduced band while complying with strict social distancing protocols; the LHB would normally rehearse several weeks in advance of the opening game. Special customized PPE for instrumentalists, and their instruments, is on order but not yet received. There is no experience with these materials and the band needs time to experiment to learn how to manage them."
Let me correct Dr. Young... Yes....there is enough info. More than enough. Let em play. Here's an idea....quit consulting mainstream doctors . Their responses are all too predictable, they move in lockstep with accepted and promoted narratives whether well analyzed or not, and, frankly, they are wrong far too often. March and play and do what you do....make music....maybe it will help drown out all the nonsense in the air...who knows, may kill a few virus particles, too lol What a bloody waste...
With over 70% of students attending virtual there may not be enough band members to field the 60 much less the full band. Anybody have contacts w current LHB members to find out?
Usually everyone here complains how hot the first few games are and now everyone is crying over the low temp. Jeeeez, what bunch of cry babies.
Some fans will not get to see their team play at all this year and we do, but don’t let that ruin a good opportunity to ***** about something
It was an observation not a complaint. I've neither the time or interest to teach you the difference.
Speaking of.... I hear the Horns will be wearing social injustice stickers and patches on their helmets and jerseys........ Due to social injustice of rapists resisting arrest and being killed by cops I guess.
NR, That would never be allowed by the NCAA, because it would be divisive and show favoritism to one group.
