And so it passes I am passing the hurry up and hire Urban phase And am moving back into the phase where we just give up football altogether (which if you know anything about Title IX, means all sport). We are not any good at it any more. And if we cant be good at it, then we shouldn't do it at all Our players hate us, hate the school, hate the school song The band hates us, hates the school song Why allow haters to stand on your shoulders? It's a complete disaster Why do we still even bother? Spend your Saturdays out in nature, hunting or fishing Or work on the house, learn a new language, read books, or travel (err, OK, maybe not that, maybe work on your cooking skills instead)
I'm getting closer everyday. It feels less and less like my school and Austin no longer feels like the town I was born and raised in.
Fenves was a contributor, but the LSS Longhorn was already taking on water when he arrived. I would put more blame on his predecessor.
When Texas was good in the 2000s (comparable to the 60s?), we still lost to OU a lot and won 2 conference titles and one natty. Soooo, what is our standard? Win a lot of games but not championships like OU/Alabama/Ohio State/etc/etc/etc?
It's not easy to answer that because my personal standard is clearly different from that of the school admin/academic side. So, there really isn't an "our."
Yep, same reason I quit playing golf in my late 60's. Just wasn't fun getting pissed off all the time and wasting 4 hours - boy, that sounds familiar.
This year feels so much like 1997, just missing the 66-3 beat down. That may well come this weekend in Stillwater.
It took me until my late 20's to get to that point with golf. Clearly I'm an overachiever. Probably the only area where I overachieved.
The thing that is hard for me to get through my head is not how far the program has dropped, but how totally we have screwed up the process of correcting it.
I quit on the NFL in the 90's because of the strike. Outside of "watching" the super bowl every year, I think I've watched maybe 10 other games in the last 20+ years. I've said it here a few times that I got tired of hearing millionaires and billionaires fight over money. I'm feeling the same way about Texas football except I'm fed up with different things. The difference is if we can put together a COMMITTEE to find the next coach vs just hiring the next hot thing, we might find a coach who can win and stop insinuating I'm a racist. If we can start winning and all that calm down then I'm sure I'll keep watching. As it is I can hardly stomach it all.
Two bad hires at HC don't ruin it forever. it ruins it for a while though. Ala. was down for years after Bear retired. Fla was down after um left. After Barry left, it took ou a while to find stoops. Horns need to find the right coach and in a couple of years this program will be right back in the thick of B12 championships.
I think Jed Clampett and Jethro Bodine are still out huntin' for them golfs. They found what they believed to be golf eggs, but Granny was having a difficult time boilin' em up!
I'm right there with ya, brothers. Golf and I mutually agreed to go our separate ways about 20 years ago.
Herman's mess at Texas after 3+ years makes one wonder what kind of mess he left Major at Cougar High. Maybe their issues were more Herman and less Major.
So everyone is saying that part of the Ewers decommit is because Herman spoke bad about him to a couple of people and word got back to him and his family. He has been talking about reopening his recruitment but was not going to do it so soon. He was going to wait to see Texas end results on the season but once he heard that he decided to decommit now. The Trey guy is a radio host who first reported this and would lose his job as well as all credibility if he lied about this so it's some truth to the story. Everyone thinks Herman knows he is about to be gone so he is trying to burn bridges before he leaves. I personally don't know him or his personality for me to say that but if he is doing so and he does lose his job then he will not coach anywhere ever again. The fact he talked bad about a recruit to begin with is shocking. Especially someone of Ewers caliber.
Mchammer, If there was a way for me to hit the Winner, Hot, Like and Agree I would do it. great post. I like what Mike Leach is doing with his malcontents by sending them to the transfer portal. When a reporter asked him why so many have entered , he said more are on the way. He then said that he will only have players that buy in and wants to play hard.
