Email from athletics: After a great deal of discussion, consultation with our medical professionals and out of an abundance of caution during the holiday travel season, Texas Athletics has decided to put a hold on fan attendance at Tuesday's Women's Basketball game versus Lamar at the Erwin Center. The game will be played as scheduled and be available via our broadast partners. We will continue to monitor health conditions in our community, work closely with our medical experts and revisit the situation for future games at the Erwin Center in the coming days.
Honestly the best decision possible. With these cases going up at an alarming rate I wouldn't be surprised too see no fans for quite a while. The big 12 might make it mandatory that no fans are allowed at conference games
I don't know how many of the forum members are living outside of Austin, but we are currently under Stage 5 of COVID. All voluntary because the city can't go up against the Guv. So yeah, hosting audience members during Stage 5 not a good look either. And also, since the men's game got cancelled because their opponent isn't coming (game was at 11:00), then I guess having workers there for 1 instead of 2 games wasn't good as well.
If you are going to use the “abundance of caution” case due to travel over the holidays then why is this game being played? Do we know exactly where the Lamar players were over the holidays?
Each player from both teams will be tested everyday up until the game and on gameday. If one test pops up positive then the game will be cancelled. I'm not really holding my breath for this game to be played because of holiday travels. I'm more on the side of if it happens then I am happy & surprised but if not then I wouldn't be shocked.
Completely agree. I think there should be at least a 1 week quarantine for everyone when they return to campus regardless of coming in contact with anyone or not.
Lamar is a good, well coached basketball team. If Texas doesn't come ready to play it could be a game.
Did I look up the right Lamar team? The Lamar team I looked up is 1-6, which includes a 50 point loss to Fresno State. Texas should win this game by at least 30-40 point range.
It is kind of strange how they kinda hung with the Aggies twice and looked worse in the other losses.
I love Warren and her game is my favorite but, I think Vic has to tell her to calm it down when it comes to the falling. I get taking a charge but what hurts her is the flopping when she falls. It can't be good for the body and it shows because she has been in concussion protocol so many times at Texas. Her health is much more important especially when it comes to the brain and head area. You can take a charge & protect yourself while doing so.
Love seeing Celeste in the huddle being positive. I think some misinterpreted her “serious game face” with an attitude problem. Anyone know why Precious (#51) wouldn’t get some minutes considering the super short bench today?
Am I the only one who doesn't think this game should have been played?? I get Vic trying to tune it up before conference play but considering how low we are on numbers I think we should have left this game alone. I just hope everyone makes it out healthy and we have everyone back by Sunday.
Earlier this season I commended and worried about OU only playing with 7 players. Gulp. But really with 7+1 right? Shay really does add something to the game when she's put in. Gaston! Like the commentators said, "When she gets the ball, she has no hesitation as to what she's going to do" I wish I could ask post players, past and present, why the dribble once before shooting when they get the ball passed to them. Does it get them a moment to prepare for the shot? Is it to orient themselves? Is it to....??? So, no audience for next Sunday's game as well. Drat Joanne sure was a warrior in this game, but her normal uninjured face looks "pained" by default, so only when she was clutching a body part could I tell how hurt she was Starting to worry about the long-term health and playing time for Audrey. Love, love her defensive play but I'm afraid she might be forced to retire this or next year if she keeps getting concussed A tired Ashley accounted for 4 TOs? Yikes And that inbound pass from Gaston that bounced off of Lambert's fingers? SMH
All coaches and players want to play real games. We see the virus and I know they live it daily but I think the program has a mechanical testing program that gives them comfort. The trend is up on this team and I hope we can get the entire conference games in this season.
