So I ask a friend where they want to grab a bite and not to lay down the "I don't care" bit. I get this back: I would like some crab cakes. ****. Where in town has good crab cakes? I don't expect them to be on the level of what I would get when I was in DC but there surely are some. So where do I go to get them crab cakes? Yeesh. Why not ask for Blowfish or something?
McCormick and Schmick's has pretty good crab cakes. Eddie V's does as well. I can't think of anywhere cheaper/more casual where I've had good ones.
Dur, thanks. Both would be fantastic choices. It has been decided that proximity and familiarity will win. Papaadeux it is. Forgot about that one too. I hate brain farts but great suggestions. Eddie V's dur.
Eddie V's has always had the best, IMO J Blacks actually has tremendouse crab cakes. Our chef is from Eddie V's so that would be why
best crab cakes I've ever had are linked below. Dominate Pesce, Trulucks, and Vic and Anthony's here in Houston. My parents get them a couple of times a year, a dozen cost $144 plus shipping 200 or so total. They only ship them by the dozen though www.faidleyscrabcakes.com/index.html
Quality Seafood on Airport Boulevard has a full service restaurant with later hours than the retail counter & they do show crab cakes on their menu. That said, we just bought 3 crab cakes from Central Market (South) to have on Xmas Eve @ the Momsters, so I'll let you know how that turned out.
There are none. Go to the eastern shore of Maryland if you want good crabcakes. We have chili and BBQ, and Tex-Mex, though. My wife's mother made the best in the world, but she passed away a few years ago. She made them for a family get-together in Ocean Springs, Maryland. Delicious. I think my wife has the recipe, if you would like it.
Thanks for that helpful threadshit accurate. Did anyone here ask about maryland crab cakes? hint: no they ******* didn't.
However, it is easy as hell to make your own Maryland crabcakes (I use the recipe from the Annapolis Jr. League cookbook). Buy fresh lump crabmeat. Use a tiny bit of cracker meal and mayo as your binder. Add a dash of ground mustard, Old Bay, and lemon juice. Gently fold it all together. Form into crabcakes. Refrigerate for a couple of hours so they'll hold together. Pan fry for a couple of minutes per side. PERFECTION. I made these just a couple of weeks ago with fresh crabs from the coast (I sat there and picked crabs for an hour while I watched TV). My kids each ate a whole crabcake, which irked me. I mean, I busted my *** for those -- they should have been happy with mac n cheese or hotdogs, but no -- I raised two damned gourmets.
There are crabs in the gulf of mexico too... Maryland doesn't have a monopoly on crabs... I'll 5th (or whatever we're on) Trulucks...
He was for sure not pissing on Austin. But The Maryland/DC area has amazing crabcakes. It is their specialty and you don't stay open very long or have that item on your menu if it is not stellar. Sort of how Philly is known for Cheesesteak and College Station for mindless cultish sheep humpers. For sure you can find good crab cakes in Austin and there is a list of a few places above to do so. But in the National Capital Area you can go just about anywhere with them on the menu and be safe to assume they will not be good, they will be great. I would not need to post this question were I still living there. Accurate is about as "Austin" as they come.
Why Rama, so I could not read you like a comic book in braile at poker and own you? Don't hate, respect your dominators.
Please, your tail wags. My sorry buddy from Iowa busted you at Bob's tourney a few years back. Can't believe you let that hack take you. And as far as I'm concerned, I'm still the champion over at Bronson's place. Noone has taken that title from me.
Ha, I totally forgot about Mr. Iowa. He bad beat a bunch of people if I recall properly. That was funny. He seemed like a nice guy though. He just cannot play cards to save his life. Rushes are nice and he had a good one going. Good for him. Mr. Iowa made quite an impression on the night.
realized i forgot to cast a vote - mine goes to the lump blue crab cakes at eddie v's as well. hit them on a sunday or monday for all day/night happy hour and they are 1/2 price along with $0.30-35 oysters on the half shell and $2 longnecks. makes for a nice lazy, buzzed sunday afternoon.
