I'm getting a double dose of Texas this week -- Arkansas High takes on Texas High Friday night on the Texas-side of Texarkana, and then we have the pleasure of stepping onto DKR Saturday afternoon.

While true that we've taken two sub-par teams into Texas and won the last two times we've played in the state, I see nothing that shows that we even have the capability of doing it again this time.

After watching your first quarter against UTEP, I held out some semblance of hope that we could stay on the same field, but reality set in after Colt hit Buckner on the first play of the 2nd quarter and the points started rolling in.

At least we'll have some sort of idea as to where we are after this weekend. I'll see you guys about noon Saturday.

Hey HSG, good to see you, was wondering where you were.

We'll see-- your teams usually love to hate us, and that's been more than enough 2 of the last 3 times we've played...

Actually, 3 of the last 4 (1991). [IMG]

But beyond that the "x" out of the last "x" turns ugly. [IMG]

No, in 1991 your team was just flat-out better. That was an awful, awful, AWFUL Texas offense.

This team won't be motivated to beat Texas the way Houston Nutt-coached Arkansas teams were. By the way, I take the Dallas Morning News here and couldn't believe the picture of him posted on p. 3C this morning.

I'm not convinced Petrino knows of any of the SWC history. To him, we might as well be playing Southern Cal or Michigan. Here's a link on what the players (and Petrino) think of the rivalry:

HSG, what do you think of the Patrino hire? he doesn't seem like someone the alumni base would connect with.

Interesting, HSG. Those comments from Arkansas players and from Petrino sound almost identical to the things that our players and Mack Brown were saying before the 2003 game.

I am not falling for any trap that the hoggies are setting up for the mighty Horns.....I just hope the team is ready for the Hillbilly Jihad that awaits them in Austin.

I predict a 13 point win for the Horns with a touchdown coming late so that the home fans can exhale. Then I can get ready to read dire predictions on this board all week how bad we are. [IMG]

Hogs smell...good to have you back, but if the weather man is right, you might have to do the dog paddle to get to the game this weekend.

Good to have you back HSG, always a good post. I think the game will be close, like always. The good news for us is that Matt Jones is not on the team, atleast I don't think you have a player like that. No matter what it will be closer than it should.

    Hooray for HSG!

I recall the tempo on the field in that 2003 game. A buddy and I took our seats and watched the teams warm up. There was energy and excitement, anger even from the Razorbacks.

To the Horns it was business as usual, game day, where are our fans? Oh yeah, it's not the end of the 1st Qtr, stretch some more.

Game time arrives. The Razorbacks are hopping up and down, doing chants, grabbing each others hats and are generally about to burst.

The Horns, well, they were high fiving, strutting around, business as usual. Not a lot of energy or excitement in general, only in a few.

My buddy said something along the lines of, "The Horns better strap their chinstraps extra tight, Arkansas looks up for this, holy ****".

Game time. They are knocking the snot out of us like they hate us. We are confused and unreactive. We cannot tackle Matt Jones to save our lives.

When he made one of his often 3rd and long Houdini throws, off balance at the sideline to a WR also on one leg going out of bounds for a 24 yard first down...we felt like it was Miami all over again. We were partially right.

As the Horns somberly sang the Eyes of Texas, some Razorback players celebrate in the endzone by stomping on the TEXAS or the Bevo in it. Others are off giving the Horns Down to the crowd, even their coach did the Horns down. One player felt the need to landscape and started ripping up the grass in the Bevo and throwing it around.

In general the hatred has lasted longer and stayed more intense on the Arkansas side of things. It sure did that day and it showed.

I hope the coaches recall this and pass it on to the players. This is not another game to the fans and it damned sure better not be to the players.

Hey players, and I know some of you read here...this is not another game. You are playing one notch below OU v. a team that hates you more than the Aggies do. An Aggie will help you fix a flat on your car in a rainstorm because you are a Texan first and foremost. The Arky will stop and ask if you need help, then drive off or maybe splash you. Got it? Good.

Now go lay your hats in their chests.

I remember that 03 game, terrible experience. I also remember leaving the stadium and passing by the north endzone as the hog fans celebrated and cussed Texas fans out from the top of the old endzone. Thats when the hatred for me set in, previously I had been too young to truly understand arkansas fans. Sounds like the OP is one of the good ones, I appreciate his post.

95% of the fanbase loves Petrino... love that he mixes up run/pass and takes what the defense gives.

Man do I remember 2003. I was shocked and shitfaced. Not a good combination. I almost got into a fight with a rather large black man outside of DKR when he was talking ****.

Damn, I would have got my *** kicked.

My season tickets are in the new DKR endzone. I do prefer the layout of the endzone update Fayetteville did back in 2001. All of the seats in the lower level are chairbacks.
Other than that, the stadium layout is very similar to DKR's horseshoe with JumboTron in open endzone.

They also have an interesting ticket pricing. All regular seats cost about $50.00. If you want to sit in indoor club seating you can pay $150.00 per seat. Kind on nice to have pricing for the regular guy and for the person who wants to spend more.

I was there 2003, Nutt (name would only be more appropriate if it was Nuttjob) did his childish, non-professional, "horns-down" while posing with some of team in the North end after the game.

This guy is the epitomy of un-professional coach, and an incredibly bad role model for his kids. Arky is SO much better off without him!

In his interview, it sounded like your (Hogs) coach was having to educate the players on the important history of this game. While the older fans may live and breathe the Texas game, I’m not sure the youngsters up there understand the importance.

Welcome back. Look forward to more posts from you as we join the SEC. This is a great test for the Horns and Sark. I do think after week 1 the Horns are better than the Hogs, but anything can happen with rivalry games. I’m looking forward to my first visit to Fayetteville. My dad told me I was sitting on his lap for the 1969 game as family watched. Will enjoy watching this one in person.

I too am looking forward to the game Saturday. I can remember the 1969 game. My dad kept telling me don’t worry we are up by 1. This somehow made things a lot better for me.
