Does he lead Texas to a Big 12 championship? At least a championship game appearance?

Probably not 5-7 this year. I'll tell you that.

Just don’t believe enough blame for this year can be blamed solely on the qb performance. Of course I recognize that’s just my assessment but we simply had too many issues this year, imo.

If Casey doesn’t hurt his hand against OU, we’re probably not 5-7. Closer to 8-4. And if he doesn’t hurt his hand “and” we just have a mediocre defense, we’re probably flirting with a 9-10 win season.

We don't lose to OU for starters. D got toasted after the O went 3 and out on the first 4 possessions of the 2nd half.

If Cam stayed then Casey would be at some tiny directional school as well.

And we would have been 9-3 easily with Cam at QB, probably 10-2 at least.

Cam had 170 yards 2 interceptions and an 87 QBR. Utah won tonight because of its stunning defense.

Now we’ve moved from QB2 being the better QB to a transfer completely changing the course of a season.
Ignoring the gagillion variables of comparing the team(s), coaching, the schedule, injuries and other factors that makes this one of the best examples of hypothetical I’ve seen here in awhile.

Utah is a complete team with a good O line and seriously fast, physical D. Neither of which Texas has. The one thing I saw from Cam that Casey doesn't have was the quick burst running, but he only ran a few times. He wasn't the difference maker.

That said, I was glad to see him and his team get the win over what looked like an Oregon team wearing pastel dots for jerseys and acting like they wanted to be anywhere other than a football field.

IMO Whittingham is an outstanding HC.

I’m not sold on Casey being the solution to the QB problem. He seem to blow hot and cold and too often went for the long pass when all we needed was a first down. Unfortunately we may not have another option unless Sark pulls a QB out out the portal.

I wouldn't give up on Card just yet.
He looked better adjusted in his last appearance or two.
Another Spring and Fall camp and who knows.
    The light might come on.

Has anyone seen a picture of Casey’s hand? I haven’t. But my buddy — who is cyber challenged so he didn’t send it to me — has, and he said that it was “blue” and swollen to double the normal size. Now we don’t know when that picture was taken — and I hope someone on HF has seen it so they can post it, but I continue to believe that his thumb situation was much more serious than reported, and the reason that we sputtered after the first half against OU. That, and of course our nonexistent defense.

To discount the impact of that type of injury is to ignore the obvious.

I don't know why people are so down on our QB's. Look who the team that only lost 1 game in B12 play has starting at QB. The dude threw 4 interceptions yesterday. Casey was better than Sanders even with a swollen thumb. And Hudson was better agaisnt WV.

Quite honestly, QB is near the bottom of our team's issues. We aren't going to be competing for any B12 chamionships until the OL and every group on the defense is fixed.

For me The main issue is team unity. It just seemed like to me some were not sold out to win. When all the players have the attitude of "win at all cost" like its team pride and unity then each will do their jobs to the best of their ability. Then its up to the coaches to put the players in the right position to succeed. All positions are accountable for success.

until he got hurt, he was part of the solution. might not be as bad as others, but he didn't have the same impact in the 2nd half of the season.

i agree with others that receivers dropped plenty of balls. But Casey had very poor touch on deep balls and missed on easy routes.

Rising's arm is comparable to Thompson's. The two main differences are Rising's feet (has more freedom to take off) and Utah's OL vs. ours.

There wouldn't be a damn thing Rising could do about fixing our OL situation, so anyone saying it would have made a huge difference has a different definition of "huge" than I do.

I could see some specific points of the games we lost where Thompson having Rising's running ability would have bailed us out, much like Sam. But I don't know if all of those instances add up to a "W" for all of those games.

Seems to me Casey either made a decision to run less or, more than likely, got the directive from coach...as his scrambling took a noticeable dip and he looked many times like he wanted to go but stopped himself.
This was a mistake in my view. It is a huge part of the game at the collegiate level and even teams with "pocket passers" have them running more these days it seems. My own subjective impression is there are valuable yards to be gained available quite frequently. Casey has shown an ability to get out quick and get yards in a hurry. Not sure why we weren't utilizing it more. It changes how the defense must defend dramatically if they see this as a legitimate threat.

Card ran well when he came back in.
I don't think the coaches told him not to run.
Perhaps he was afraid of fumbling with the bad thumb.

What if the Brockermeyer twins commiitted to Texas instead of Bama!

This game is fun, dumb but fun.

Man, 11..I dont know. I saw Rising make a few throws that looked top tier Div 1 to me. Some of those seam routes to the TE were....whoa. Speaking of utilizing tight ends...

His two recent games against Oregon were mostly "do whatever it takes to not f**k this up" and he succeeded. He might have had a good throw here and there, but his passer rating in both games was kinda sucky. Or, look at his game against CU from 2 weeks ago. Thompson lit up a better CU defense in 2020 for one half than Rising did against a 4-8 CU.

The Utes run and that's pretty much it. They have the 3-headed RB machine plus Rising taking off and that opens up the PA pass game for him to occasionally get the 200-yard passing game. I wish we were in the same position, honestly. We should be asking Thompson to do the same exact stuff as Rising while Bijan, Roschon, and Keilan take the pressure off of him. But our OL is **** and our defense can't keep the opponent from 5+ ypc, so here we are.

If Thompson doesn't injure his hand, maybe we win one or two of the games we lost. That's a big maybe, and I do think our D was not good enough nor able to get the stops we needed. I still believe the best we could have done was 7-5 with some luck.

Until someone goes Tanya Harding on Risings thumb, this is a moot point.

BTW, how many top teams did Rising face?

    Define "top teams"

    Top team in their division?
    Top Team in their state?
    Top team in their town?
Top team in their own mind?

I think the answer to all the above is NONE!
