Why have we not found/developed another WR to compliment Worthy.

cain was supposed to fill that need but was unreliable.

we could lose JWhit and Worthy after the season.

    any additional prospects?

    65,

We have, or should I say a member of HornFans did and has. 6'2"/210+ with 4.4 speed and 46" vertical. Unfortunately, he got hurt in preseason and had to have surgery.

What’s the consensus around here about our WR position coaching?

    :idk::idk::idk::idk::idk:

Not a dig, or a snark—I’m not a WR guy. I just want to know peoples’ thoughts.

Hard to catch passes when they are routinely 3-4 feet over your head. Or, 5-10 yards past you on a deep route.

Whitt has been very good. And of course Neyor injured. With Neyor it could have been one of the best groups in a long time. Back to at least Cosby/Shipley, if not back to the big 3.

I assume you are talking about Neyor. We knew he was gone before the first game. Nobody since is not very good.

got one committed but unsigned. We need receivers and DB’s badly

JWhitt coming back? Going to test NFL? Transferring with Card to light up film/stats?

Can’t see J Whit transferring. No inside knowledge just listening and watching can’t see him leaving other than to graduate and move on. Surely with all the injuries he could take a medical red shirt if desired.

We simply haven’t had a reliable 3rd receiver (as we all know) and frankly, Worthy has underachieved. Sure, Ewers has missed him, but there have been plenty of drops and short arming it, and at least one devastating fumble. He has “elite” talent, but he has not performed at an elite level.

Sure hope that the portal is kind to us. I’ll take either of those TAM receivers in exchange for Worthy who, when (if?) he puts it all together, will be very special. Of course, if Neyor comes back healthy in 23, that would be a huge bonus.

didn't know whitt had eligibility left. If he stayed for another season I would be extremely gruntled. that would be huge cause he is a playmaker and very good blocker

But I don't see him staying. He has been here forever.
so assuming he is gone we will have Neyor, Thompson, and Red. (Worthy gone...good).
then we get cook, who will make a big impact. But we need more. Can we get a portal guy. Stewart would be perfect, but I will believe that when I see it. Wr room is our biggest fix.

He probably has 2 more years due to medical red shirts if he wanted it.

If I was one of these bid donors that paid Worthy for NIL money. I'd sue him and make him lose it all with attorneys fees. That needs to be in those agreements. If you transfer you have to pay back, if we pull your ship, you can keep the money.

I thought "tampering" was illegal in NCAA. I remember when Hadnot had his meltdown and showed up at aggy practice, RC notified Texas right away.

    Handler,

That's because RC is a great guy, but also because Rod Dockery's father was retired superintendent of Kirbyville. Rod took the fall on the Murray deal when A&M thought they were going to get the death penalty. NCAA banned Rod from Aggie athletics and Jackie got fired.

Did not forget. Neyor was not available this year due to injury. We we really short of receivers this year. If we lose 2, Worthy and JWhit, that is only adding 1. Who is in the pipeline? We have 1 commit but not signed.

We became Army and started to win a little. Don’t worry about receivers..

My point was we successfully found and developed another wide receiver to complement Worthy, which was your initial question/gripe. That Neyor got injured is not a fault of anybody on the 40 acres.

Guess I didn’t consider someone that never took a snap as another WR.

Well, Neyor sparkled in the Spring game, and got injured during preseason practices. Sometimes the best laid plans turn to ****.

My guess is that Whitt's leaving too based on his senior day walk.

I kind of see this WR exodus (starting with the past couple seasons and guys like Moore, Eagles, Washington, Dixon, etc.) as a house-cleaning due to the scheme we've been in and the lack of opportunity since Sam left. We truly haven't had good enough QB play, despite the recruiting rankings or whatever you choose to believe.

My hope is that when the dust settles, the ones who remain are going to perform as a complementary unit and let the cream rise to the top. We're not Tech and don't use 12 WRs regularly. Going back to our 2009 season, the number of WRs who have caught more than 12 passes averages out to about five/year. My guess is we'll have these guys available next year, plus a portaller or two:
    Cook
    Neyor
    Red
    Cain
    Omeire
    Thompson
Hall (doubtful but one can hope)
    Niblett
Wisner (as a K. Robinson kind of jet sweep guy)

I know it's weird to say that would be enough, but if we're going to run the ball with Brooks, Robinson, Blue, and Baxter, AND we'll have Sanders/Helm to throw to as well... I think it could work. Not a lot of room for injuries, but we've never been the kind of program to roll out that many personnel.

list of pretty good receivers though I have a feeling Cain and Omerie won't be here. I think we might get a portal or three.

How much of this receiver development conversation is actually the result of Ewers being incapable of checking through a receiver progression and being severely inaccurate? I would swear you could find open receivers on every play but if you're the second or third option it's very unlikely you even get a look.
