Hey guys. I live in Nebraska and am a fan of Nebraska (even in the recent dreadful years of Husker football.) I spend a lot of time on Cornhusker message boards and have gotten all kinds of biased (it's hard not be) predictions for Nebraska's season in '08. We're all obviously very excited about getting Bo for HC and even more excited to get rid of Coach Callacan't, but I would like to get some unbiased opinions for predictions so what better place. I've gone to a few games between UT and NE and have found that the fans of UT are both respectful and Knowledgeable, so I'm value your opinions. How dreadful or good will this season turn out for Nebraska? Here's our schedule...and my predictions

8/30 VS. Western Michigan... W
9/6 VS. San Jose State... W
9/13 VS. New Mexico State... W
9/27 VS. Virginia Tech... L
10/4 VS. Mizzou... L
10/11 @ T-Tech... L
10/18 @ Iowa St.... W
10/25 VS. Baylor... W
11/1 @ OU... L
11/8 VS. KU... L
11/15 @ K-State... W
11/28 VS. CU... W

=7-5... Many Husker fans think that VTech won't be what they were last year and actually think we'll beat them. Also many think that we'll beat KU or Mizzou. This is where I think the bias is showing.

So I'm curious as to your predictions on the outcome of these games/final record prediction? Any takers??? Thanks

The new standard for 1st year coaches is <77-0. Y'all will be alright.

Seriously, I wouldn't really go against your predictions. Might even give you the TTU game.

I think NU will end up with a better record than 7-5 and I could see you guys winning 2 of 3 in the Mizzou, KU & Tech games.

You will not lose to Mizzou or KU. I see an 8 to 9 win season there. I think NU is starting the long road back.

Based on that schedule I say 8-4. Huskers will beat one of the teams you had an L by - tech, mizzou or ku.

You will not beat Mizzou. Probably Kansas.

I could easily see Nebraska finish 8-4. Possibly 9-3.
The only "sure" losses would be OU and Tech in Lubbock.
KU will be exposed for the flash in the pan program that exploited a cup cake schedule.
Mizzou and VT are good but not elite teams so you should stand a good chance in Lincoln.

11. Here are my best guesses.

Western Mich-W
San Jose-W
New Mexico State-W
VT-W (my first home upset pick)
Mizzou-L (I badly want us to win this game to expose Mizzou for the fraudulent program they are, but I fear Chase will have a big game, so I put an L here)
@ Tech-L (Too tough to beat Tech on the South Plains)
@ Iowa State-W (but closer than it should be for a while)
Baylor-W
@ OU-L (but closer than some expect)
KU-W (home upset #2)
@ KSUcks-L (Here, is where I figure we'll lose the game we shouldn't)
sCUm-W (Revenge game, at home. I see a W here)

8-4, 4-4 in conference. Insight or Independence Bowl.

I see y'all 9-3. You beat one of Kansas/Mizzou. I think you lose v. Va Tech as it is early in the year but beat KSU. I think that towards the end of the year things gel, system gets more in place and things go much better and more fluid. I think you have the right man for that job. I very much look forward to sig. progress for the Huskers. It is good for college football, imho.

doesn't KU return like 18 starters?
Say what you want about KU but returning a bunch of guys that think they can win & have tasted success means a lot.
I think KU will be pretty damn good this year myself.

Although it's kind of cool to have Kansas and Missouri making national waves in football, it just doesn't FEEL right. I long for the good ole days when Nebraska was a top national power.

That aside, I see the original poster's predictions as realistic, but hoping for better.

My personal opinions:

Nebraska, when I checked this past winter, you had recruited more four and five star players for the last 4 years than A&M, so the player talent is there for Nebraska now. This is more talent than any other Big 12 north team.

I didn't check if there is an inbalance by position in this four and five star talent; if all positions are covered, you can win and play in the championship game this year! If there is a serious inbalance in this four and five star talent, Bo can address it in the Feb 09 signing class and you'll be in the championship game in 09, worst case.

In any case, it shouldn't take you very long to be at the top and to be playing almost every year in the Big 12 championship for a BCS bowl.

Aggies would die right now for a head coach like Bo and a strong Athletic Director like Dr. Tom who has been there, to help him. I'm envious.

A&M a rebulding and a winning season in 2006, and champs in 2008!

I think Pelini's a good coach, and he has Osborne as the Godfather to keep him on the straight and narrow path. Nebraska wins eight games this year, maybe nine if they go to the right bowl, and they pull in a good recruiting class next year. I think it will take Pelini/Osborne three years to make Nebraska "NEBRASKA" again in the north, but if anyone out there can do it, I think Pelini's the right choice. Oh yeah...beat blow-u in the process!

well, a good defense will go a long way. Pelini should give you that.

i wouldn't count yourself out of any game this year. VT and TT are about 50/50 in my eyes, and who really knows what KU is going to put on the field this year. they will have to prove it.... again.

I think you lose to CU.

While on the subject of the Huskers. I wish the B12 would find a way for NU and OU to play every single year. I don't really like either school, but that is classic football right there. I love that rivalry. That is college football to me.

A factor with KU should also be Mangino's health.

Didn't he recently have medical intervention due to his weight?

I respect what he has done at KU, and certainly wish him no ill will, but extremely high stress jobs such as major program head football coaches, the time demands, interrupted sleep cycles and travel demands (planning, coaching, recruiting, public speaking, etc) have a cost on the body.

He surely gave it his all last year; he might have to cool it a bit, may be on medication to help him out with cardiovascular issues, and may have a slight loss of fire.

Hoping good health for him, but if he's listening to his docs, he'll probably pull back a bit from the job demands.

Between VT, Mizzou, & TT, I think you win one. Two, if you are going to be really solid this year. If you take 2 of those 3, which I wouldn't expect, then you should beat either KU or OU.

7 or 8 wins. Losses to VT, TT OU, KU, and possibly CU.

I wasn't to impressed with Callahan's recruiting except for a couple of good ones each year. I really don't think that they have near the talent as we have thought of Nebraska in the past. I think that is a year or three away. However, the excitement of new HC and kids playing hard. I think like others on here 8-9 wins. Don't know which teams they will come from, but I think that probably happens! Plus, a decent bowl bid.

NU is in the same league academically as OU, down at the bottom of the list of national universities.

That school you like so much should drop out of the NCAA and focus on getting its kids a decent education. Once that happens, sign up for the NCAA again:

Marley this post has nothing to do with acedemics, but if you want to go there... Let me ask you what team you root for? I just thought I'd inform you that the players Husker fans are watching on the field any given Saturday are the most highly educated players for any school in the country. This is proven in their acedemic performance. Here's one example for you...The Link with Texas sitting pretty well also, but I don't want to get too far off topic here because that has absolutly NOTHING to do with the topic. Why don't you set up your own post with that information so it will be discussed if it's that important to you. But other than Marley's little bit there, I appreciate everyone's responses to my post. It seems that the husker boards are not just getting biased predictions and that we may all agree that Nebraska will be much improved in the 2008 season. I'm excited to read that! Thank you all.
