I have seen some people passing a hat back and forth during a baseball game and something happens and somebody gets all the money. something else happens and the hat gets passed down. anybody have a link or an explanation please
I've seen a hat passed at Express games when players hit a home run. The players then get the $$$. Not what you're talking about?
You add a dollar to the pot every time the ump throws the ball onto the mound between innings and it rolls off. Not sure how it is decided who, but someobdy wins the pot when the ball stays on the mound. I guess the hat is passed to another person every half inning and maybe whoever has it at the time the ball stays on gets it.
this is the game I'ved played.... each person picks a player that they think will hit a home run (you could also do next base hit for more action). first batter of the game...hat starts with first person putting a dollar in the hat. Next batter, move to next person in your group who also puts a dollar in the hat. Etc, etc. Let's say you have 4 people in your group, hence 4 players selected to him a home run (or base hit). When one of these selected players is up to bat, the person who selected them has a chance to win the accumulated pot. For example, the batting order goes 1-9 w/o a home run. There will be $9 in the pot. When the 1st batter comes up the next inning, a dollar will be added to the pot making it $10. If that batter hits a home run, whoever selected him gets $10. Then start over. If a homerun is hit by someone not selected, game continues on and pot is still up for grabs. You could also select players from each team so that there are more opportunities to win. It sounds complicated but it's not.
Each player, gets or takes money based on the outcome of each batter. Everyone puts 5 dollars into begin with. Randomly select who gets the hat first. If, while you have the hat, your batter does the following, you add subtract money from the pot. Makes and out, add 1 dollar. Hits into a Double Play, 2 dollars. Walk, or single, 0, double take 2 dollars, triple take 3 dollars, Homerun, everything in the hat. You can also get money for RBI's, steals, etc...
Last summer in the outfield bleachers at Wrigley, we played unpainted's game with some locals. We also drank beer.
My version. Hit = $$$. Everyone antes up a buck. The pot gets passed with every out. Each player holds the pot for one batter. If you're holding the pot during a hit, you keep it. Otherwise, you pass it. If the pot goes a full lap with no hit, everyone antes up another buck. Bernard
that's the other way I've done it, and is the simplest. One addition was that if the hit was a home run, everyone (except the winner) would add an additional dollar to pot for the winner
I've played where you get to pull a dollar if you're guy gets a hit, and one for each RBI he drives in. HR = take it all. Every inning you pitch in another dollar. Beer drinking is not part of the game but part of the experience.
