Who would you rather have at QB THIS season: Please answer for each scenario: a) Chris Simms or Colt McCoy? b) Major Applewhite or Peter Gardere? c) Sherrod Harris or James Brown? d) Marty Cherry or Richard Walton? e) Vince Young or Joe Montana? f) Ryan Perrilloux or Rhett Bomar?
a) Chris Simms or Colt McCoy? Toss-up b) Major Applewhite or Peter Gardere? Applewhite c) Sherrod Harris or James Brown? Seriously? d) Marty Cherry or Richard Walton? Walton, I guess. e) Vince Young or Joe Montana? Vince f) Ryan Perrilloux or Rhett Bomar? I'm not choosing and you can't make me.
a) Colt McCoy b) Major Applewhite c) James Brown ... what has Sherrod even done ? d) Richard Walton e) Vince Young f) Ryan Perrilloux
I was rewatching several games from 2002... Preface, I am not a Simms hater. But there were several games, where Simms just seemed not "into" the game... really bad decisions on third downs, throwing passes on third and long that had no chance of gettign the necessary yardage, tripping over the center's feet in the red zone. Just a lot of watsed plays. Granted he had some great games too. All that got me to thinking, would I rather have McCoy of Simms for this season? I think I'd take McCoy for his consistency and becasue he always seems to have his head on the game.
a. Sims b. Both found ways to win- Applewhite did it better c. James Brown - has Sherrod even taken a single snap under center d. I honestly dont even recognize the name of Marty Cherry, guess i choose Walton- but god he sucked e. I choose god, I mean Vince f. Have to go with Ryan, at least he played more than one season in Div I (and got a MNC ring)
1. Simms 2. Applewhite 3. JB 4. Walton was nails... would have been a great senior leader on that 1998 team had he not been injured. 5. VY 6. Depends on the offense style I guess. If it was our current one, I'd have to go with Perrilloux.
1. All qb's seem to be well matched against each other. 2. I'd ask what the hell is going on with your sig photo, but I'm not sure I want to know.
Simms - no-brainer Gardere - guaranteed W over OU JB - again, no-brainer Walton RP - with MB's guidance, might be a different person today
For the coming season I choose Bobby Lane. Nobody slacks of with him as the leader and who is this Joe that lives in Montana?
Excellent off-season thread. a) McCoy, though I think this is mostly due to his lower expectations b) Applewhite, since Gardere was mostly before my time c) James Brown d) Marty Cherry, just because his name kicks *** e) Vince. I'd love to see how Montana in the college system would work out, but I can't imagine anyone better at UT than Vince. f) [direct snap to the running back]
a) Simms b) Applewhite c) Brown d) Walton e) Young f) Perrilloux There really weren't any super close calls.
I agree that you would take VY over a 52-year-old Joe Montana this season. But otherwise, you can't compare VY with the #1 or #2 QB of all time.
Great thread. Here are some interesting ones, too: Sherrod Harris or Donovan Forbes Vince Young or Bobby Layne Colt McCoy or Peter Gardere Mark McDonald or Richard Walton Chad Lucas or Chance Mock
A. Colt McCoy B. Major C. Brown D. Cherry E. Young-his experiece in this system and undoubted ability at this level of competition. F. Bomar - who has at least not imploded
