www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/sports/6042486.html Ogbonnaya starts, no mention of Fozzy. Is Mack sandbagging Stoops or is Fozzy still injured?
The dude is hurt. He has been hurt all year. He had, what, 5 carries in garbage time against UTEP? The idea that a freshman running back with two injued knees who has virtually no experience in ANY game much-less big games is going to come to the rescue of our running game for OU is just pure fantasy. We are going to hand the ball to our RB running sideways or standing still in the backfied. There will be no lead blocking. There will be no misdirection. It's the same thing for the past 3 years. Why anyone thinks it is going to change over the next 5 days is totally beyond me.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Wow. Nice optimism there. Ogbonnaya had a pretty good game last week. No reason to think our running game will be so anemic this week.
just bought my OU tix last night...would i be more ace whipped if i end up having to sit next to a sooner all game, or extra large...hmmm, tough decision
I don't think that Chris O is necessarily a magic fix for our running game, but I would like him to start for a couple reasons: 1. He's a senior whose been in the RRS before. 2. His ball security has been good. 3. He gives us the most versatility from our base offense - being split out at times. This somewhat reduces the impact of Irby being out. 4. He's our best pass blocker. 5. He's a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield. And, Colt's gonna need that. 6. He's made some pretty tough down-field catches on wheel routes. All in all, he's our best chance for consistent success at RB.
^^^^^^^^^ You can hate on XL all you want, but he's just being realistic. Chris picked up 51 yards on a missed tackle and then got arm tackled by the next guy he ran into 45 yards downfield. He did have a nice 13 yard TD run earlier. >>His other 7 carries netted 7 total yards<<
Horn Identity nailed it. Chris at RB this week gives us the best chance to win IMO. Don't worry, McGee will get some carries. Mack is not sandbagging - forget Fozzy for this game - kid has to get well. EDIT: Pedro is right, add a heavy dose of Cody Johnson to compliment Chris O. BEAT THE HELL OUTTA ou !!!
Look for Fozzy in clean-up time against A&M, he's been hurt for too long at this point to see anything meaningful during our death stretch. As far as the other RBs go, I'd love to see whoever is doing the most damage early in the game to get the majority of the touches, whether it is McGee or Jeremy Hills or anyone else, I don't care.
I think the question is, if Fozzy doesn't play against OU, does he play again this year? He's played fewer games than Irby did and Mack already said Irby would get a medical redshirt. Is that the road for Fozzy?
In this offense, Colt needs a check off man and with Irby out that is Chris. Guy has to play heavy minutes.
I say we approach the game as a true spread offense and ditch any thoughts of the run game, save for the occasional QB designed run or zone read play. With Ogbonnaya back there, we have an additional blocker to help us pick apart the defense on quick throws to Cosby and Shipley. Johnson gets the goal line push carries. We won't need McGee, Hills, Fozzy, or anyone else in the backfield if we beat OU the way I know we can. We're not the effing Big Ten. We don't need to control the ball on the ground to win, we just need to move it.
I thought DeMarco Murray would start, Chris Brown would back him up and after we get way ahead Mossis Madu would mop up....................I never heard of any of those other guys......................did i misunderstand the question?
I think this board is way too concerned w/ the starter @ RB. Cody started last game was in a series...one, before he was spelled. They'll try them all and continue to go w/ the hot back. I know it sucks, but w/ this group, I'm afraid that's as good as it gets. Hopefully someone will step up like Obi-Won did in the CU game. You can look at this way as well..... In the past Sooner has been able to scheme against our best players and remove them from the game. W/ this team, who's that going to be (besides the obvious Colt)? If one of our backs starts to gash them in the 1rst half or even a drive in the 1rst half, chances are they won't be able to adjust in time to stop the drive. I like our team. They're tough to scheme against because everyone plays.... 73
i'd love it if fozzy was healthy and could go, but i don't see it. let's hope that cody can wear down the ou d.
No way I want to see a frosh who I have only seen in limited action play in this game. Dude may be injured as well. CO, Cojo, and McGee are the guys and they are playing well enough to not warrant a need to play Fozzy. CO had a huge game last week and deserves the start and at least 10 touches.
