Is the new setup such that there are equal number of seats if the stadium is divided endzone to endzone, as opposed to the old mismatched upper decks? Not that I'd suggest changing the arrangement for Texas/OU, just curious if the new construction balanced it out.
Nope. Not only is there still a section of Sooners in the middle of the Texas Section to mkae up for the tunnel, since there's a cut out for the replay board on the new upperdeck in the Sooner end of the stadium, there's also a section of Sooners in the UT upperdeck also.
Actually I meant if the stadium was bisected north/south (through the goalposts) as opposed to east/west (at midfield) as it currently is. Since the old upper decks were different sizes I'd always heard the crowd was split at the 50 to make the seating even, well except for the tunnel. Would the crowd be even now if the seating was split through the goalposts, where both sides would be affected by the tunnel and scoreboard? Or is the upper deck still not symetrical?
Seeing as we now have double decks that are the same height around the entire Cotton Bowl, I'm pretty sure that splitting the Cotton Bowl the way Puerto Aransas is suggesting would work now.
Georgia/Florida already do PA's method...We're the only big game at a neutral site split down the 50. keep it that way.
The split at the 50 also ensures that it is the highest dollar donors sitting next to the highest dollar Okie donors. If it were in the end zone, the lowest dollar donors would be sitting next to the lowest dollar Okies, which means a greater chance for violent conflict along the split.
Please take note.....The original concrete upper deck on the home (press box side) is larger than the concrete upper deck on the visitor side. When they did the new additions, they added an upper deck that encloses the entire bowl. They did not however alter or reconstruct the original upper decks. Thus the home side upper deck is larger than the visitor's. If you were to split the stadium goalpost to goalpost, the home side would have significantly more seats due to the differing sizes of the home and visitor upper decks. The other reasons are also good ones to keep it the same. It is the only neutral site split down the 50 & it keeps the potential for fights and such to a minimum. Hook 'em
