I was shocked by the horrible pass coverage gideon played last night on terrell p when he was split at wr and snagged a td pass in the corner of the endzone. Gideon did not even look for the ball...looked like he was face guarding...the coverage was horrible...he got exposed last night The rest of our secondary performed rather weak also I thought. This has been a weakness on our team ever since our nc in 05
It really was poor, especially since it was pretty obvious that was what they were going to try. He put himself into position and then didn't even look for the ball.
Not only that, the Fox commentator even said before the play that they were going to throw the fade to Pryor. If the guy in te booth knows... I expect the guys on the field to know.
tough night, slow to react and needs to make plays. Derry like. Will be a great back up but we need some playmakers back there going into next year. you can't coach speed/ball skills/instincts.
I don't know how we don't notice TP going out wide on that, everyone knows what's going to happen. We all did. I don't know how you don't try sticking Aaron Williams out on him and at least match it up a little closer. Just my thoughts on it anyway. And I don't want to keep it as a blake bashing party, but I hope he learns a lot this offseason. Too many times this year...too many times. By the end of the year, you are no longer a true freshman.
1) Gideon is a safety 2) Muschamp gambled by having the corner that was on TP blitz. Muschamp lost the bet
Texas Taps, Don't know what your point is, but even I would know to turn around and look for the ball. Are you sayying only true CB's know how to turn and look for the ball? Unacceptable!
It was not his fault. In no situation should a SS be matched up 1-1 on the edge. Doesn't matter that he was 6 inches shorter, and it doesn't matter that it was against a QB. I don't think any of our guys would have been able to cover it without making a spectacular play. Beokman also did a good job of looking off for a fraction of a second, but it's not like help came too late... it didnt come at all.
Not exactly sure how any pass defender, especially a safety, successfully defends that perfectly thrown pass to a 6'6" receiver. Should he have turned around to try to find the ball and break up the pass? Yes, but it probably wouldn't have made any difference on the play. About the only thing he could have done was interfere and take the penalty rather than the TD. That pass and catch would have been successful 90% of the time in the NFL.
Um, OSU was 10 of 25 passing for 176 yards. A lot of that yardage came on the their first first down of the second half, the long sideline throw that was a fabulous catch. We weren't handing out easy passing yardage last night. OSU ran the ball for their go-ahead touchdown on a drive where our defensive front looked liked they'd all taken a Nyquil IV before returning to the field. The fade TD was a very good pass and catch. Not saying Gideon can't improve or that the run defense was a disaster all night, but boiling everything down from a single play is useless. And....we won!
Blake had a rough night, so did Deon Beasley. And on the long pass, I flashed back to the last 12 seconds in Lubbock, as once again Curtis Brown and Earl Thomas just watched as a receiver made a huge catch.
1. Blake had a FABULOUS season for a true freshman. In fact our young secondary played better overall this year than the last time we fielded 3 or 4 underclassmen out there, and that was Huff, Griffin, Griffin, Ross etc. We all know how those guys turned out. Lay off, we are in great shape. 2. As was mentioned before, we blitzed the corner who was faking bump and run, and the safety had to run from the middle to the back corner and he was in perfect position on the field, yes he could have made a better play once he got there, and next year he will, but I'm not sure he was going to stop that one with perfect coverage. If that would have been a roll out or any other play call it would have been a sack most likely. We gambled and lost. 3. With 85 scholarship limits and people leaving early for the NFL, it will be a rare thing to see any major power having experienced upper classmen at EVERY position. It will just be a matter of whether the youngsters develop faster than the opposing coaches can exploit their inexperience. I'll gladly put my faith in Muschamp and Akina in determining who should start and play. Blake and Earl did great things this year with more to come. For those of you wanting to pick on a guy for one or two plays out of hundreds in an entire season, especially a freshman....What were your expectations? That they would be as good as the '95 Cowboys with Darren Woodson, Sanders etc.?
Agree with Goofy - take the penalty busting the play. Gideon did have a really - really bad game. Maybe when I go back and rewatch he will have made some plays to feel better about but I was thinking "hope he is not going to be hung over from the TT game permanently". Competition from Scott next yr should help bring him. But great comeback by the good guys. Needed to smack them around but I'll take the win for going into next yr. Cannot wait till August!!! Hookem
NOTE TO EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD!!!! I'm tired of deleting posts and issuing warnings. So if you guys want to keep this discussion going, here's the rule as far as I'm concerned: If you want to criticize someone for messing up a play, that's fine. If you want to say he needs to work on something, that's fine. But there will be no more talking about benching someone, saying he stinks, saying he can't play and other non-productive comments. I'm banning from here on out.
A lot of you "turn around and look for the ball" posters have clearly never played or practiced a single down of meaningful football at DB.
Pryor could make an all world wide out if he were to move there. He might have a brighter future in the NFL based on his throws last night.
