Moving into a new house and checking out my cable/internet/phone options. Don't know anyone that has AT&T as their cable provider, but the services look good. They offer a DVR that you can watch from any TV in the house, and it can record 4 different shows at once (excessive, I know). They also offer the NFL Network, and the price is really reasonable.

Anyone else have this, and how's it treated you?

I have it, and it's been pretty sweet. the occasional issue getting hbo on demand to work properly (sopranos, entourage) but they credited my bill when I complained. If you have kids or people with different tastes, the dvr from any tv is really awesome

AT&T U Verse is sweet. i've had it since august. i have the U400 package and there is always something on worth watching. if you decide to get it plan on them being at your home for a good 5-8 hours for the initial setup.

had u-verse since last summer, wouldn't go back to time-warner if it was free. u-verse has a better dvr as you said, and a better picture in both hd and standard def (to my eye, att's standard def is nearly comparable to tw's hd).

I have the u400 package with

the sports package w/ abt 40 sports channels, incl all 17 fox sports channels (many out-of-market nba and college bb games will be blacked out, but on a typical weeknight I can still watch 8-10 college games, abt 12-15 on a saturday) plus the yes network (heaven for a yankee fan like me), but most especially the nfl network. last football season there would be 20-25 or more cfb games on a saturday. sure, there was northeastern vs penn, sam houston state vs lamar, and such...but it's still cfb.

the movie package which includes all (hd, standard and on-demand) hbo, cinemax, starz, showtime, the movie channel costs $15 or $16 / month

I get all of this for abt $25 less per mo than I was giving tw. I'll never go back.

This will be the first time on my 10+ years of posting on HornFans that I will point out that there are numerous amounts of posts on this subject.

I've posted my experience (almost all good) on at least 5 threads.

I'm not pointing this out to be an ***, rather, I think there is a lot of good info for you to read and just that most of us don't care to retype the exact same material we've posted so many times before.

Use "U-verse" as your search string

Have had AT&T Uverse for almost a year, and I have not really had any issues. In that time they have added a ton of HD channels. I counted them all up a week or two ago but don't remember the number. Needless to say, it is a lot.

We have the package where we get basically every channel that is in English. The number of sports channels is staggering. We get 2 horse racing channels. We made up a pretty fun drinking/gambling game for watching horse racing.

My only problem has been with paying my bill. Apparently the people who set it all up for you are supposed to set up your online account with AT&T (which allows you to pay your bill online, access DVR from your computer, etc.). They also have decided to stop sending me hard copies of my bill, so all that I receive are emails saying that my bill is due and I can pay it online (which, of course, I cannot). So I end up having to wait until I get a threatening letter from them every 2 months to pay my bill.

So, just be sure that the guys who come set your stuff up also set up your online account.

I've been calling them every month for the last 3 months to beg them to take me as a customer - how many times do you hear about that happening? We had their service a little over a year ago when we lived in an apartment complex here in Houston and loved it. The we bought a house in Hearthstone (NW Houston) and they said they didn't offer service there. Come to find out, I put in my parents address (who live literally 2 blocks away in our neighborhood) and it says the service IS available at their house.

I've called on numerous occasions to get them to explain why it's available at my parents, but not at my house, and they can't ever give me a straight answer.

This past weekend one of our neighbors down the street (just 4 doors down) was getting it installed, so I stopped the technician to talk to him. To make a long story short, he simply said that the service may be physically available at our house, but their system has not reconized it yet, and we can't get it until it does. Yeah, like that helps explain it...

We have Dish right now, which is all right, but I'm getting [censored] over having to pay for comcast internet separately.

    TenDead,

The way it is determined is by the distance from the nearest switch/node to your house. They run Fiber to the node and then use existing copper line from the node to your house. I forget the exact cutoff distance that they use since mine has been installed for 16 months now. But apparently, if you are not within that distance, you don't want the service anyway because the signal becomes so degraded on the old copper lines that it is not worth it.

Next time you see an installer in your neighborhood, ask him where the switch/node is and figure out how far you are. Then see if you fall within the acceptable range and call AT&T or wait for the sales people to walk through your neighborhood and stop one. If it is available in your neighborhood, they will send sales people out every month to go door to door to try and sell.
