Thats a cool video. It reminds me of the NFL Films Super Bowl recaps. I think some of the music is from NFL Films.

Defense was dominant in a game between two good teams. Thigs were bleak until Brewer's 30 yd TD. Graham had to intercept Lewis on the one yard line to seal the deal.

Eleven Longhorns went in the NFL draft that Spring.

I used to work for one of the Bama Qb's...#14 the one who fumbled as they were driving to a score early in the 1st. Everytime he would start talking about how great Bama was and "the Bear this and the Bear that" I would bring up this game. It tended to shut him up.

Donnie LIttle had a great game at receiver - Fred should have put him there starting his freshman year instead of at QB

spring, yeah that was Fred's problem. If you could move time and somehow have Greg Davis be the QB coach during the early 80s instead of now, you could have had two more national championships. 1981, finished second, with a QB coach like Davis, you would have been able to have good QB play for the entire season, so you would not have had the tie for sure, the loss probably still happens, but you finish so incredibly strong offensively, you have a top notch QB to lead us into '82, probably go undefeated, maybe one loss instead of two, and then of course 83 remains undefeated, but you have a consistent QB in the Cotton Bowl against Georgia, you score at least two TDs, remember we were close enough to try 5 FGs.

So, with consistent QB play, you have a three year record of
    34 and 2.
    '81 11-1, '82 11-1, '83 12-0.

    compared to 30-5-1
    '81 10-1-1, '82 9-3, '83 11-1.

not much difference record wise, but after looking at the scores in '82 for example, the SMU loss(30-17) would have been a win, the game was tied for a long time it seemed, good QB play would have made a big difference, same thing vs. OU, losing by 6, too much inconsistency.

Almost certainly would have won the bowl game after '82
All of those years the offensive would always look so rusty in the bowl games, except for the Sun Bowl game against Maryland.

Really interesting, there was only two things about Fred that dogged him.

    1. Inconsistent QB play, even to the point of switching up QBs very often, and

    2. Horrible bowl game preparation.

The frustrating thing was that Fred couldn't figure out a way to improve in either of these two areas. I would imagine he thought his first bowl game loss (38-10) was a fluke, but after that he should have been working to change his preparation.

I was there also. I had a flashback to the Joey Jones kickoff return at this years Fiesta Bowl after Texas was flagged for unsportmanship behavior following Quan's TD. Notice that Joey Jones was able to get the return because Texas was forced to kickoff from the 35 following Orr's TD.....penalty for execessive celebration.

Although my sons now attend Bama, they refer to this game when their Bama friends start geting overly obnoxious. Great win for our program and probably our last best defense.

I also thought that Brewer was underrated as a QB. I recall seeing him come in for mop up duty during the bad loss to Arkansas. He led UT straight down the field after the horrible day the offense had with turnovers, penalties, etc. As I recall, he came into the game against Houston in the 2nd or 3rd quarter and led us to the tie after being down by 2 TDs. I also thought Robert had the call of the day in the Cotton Bowl by calling timeout when he saw another impending Bama blitz. The draw play for touchdown occurred after that key time out.
