Rush continues to show the door to smart reasonable people who might find away to get the GOP back on track. And GOP leaders seem to be following his lead.

I might be wrong, but i think Rush would rather lose every election until his last breath than allow anyone who doesn't think like him be an integral player within the GOP.

this way of thinking is going to keep him very wealthy and it will keep the GOP a minority party. A majority of Americans have rejected the stuff Limbaugh espouses and when they see him go after thoughtful reasonable people like Colin Powell he just isolates himself further.

The more Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney continue to be newsworthy and in the public sphere, the better for Dems. Talk about two people with very negative favorability ratings.

Last I checked Rush isn't paid from GOP membership dues, elections funds or any other party donations. This is just another example of him making sure people listen and quote him. I just chuckle that he is given so much airtime beyond his show.

Name.. you have a point, with that Powell quote.

“The party must realize that the country has changed. Americans do want to pay taxes for services. Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less."

So, the question is: Is it true? If so, Republicans will certainly continue to be the minority party if it chooses to not offer what the electorate wants. And that might not necessarily be a bad thing, but the writing is on the wall in regards to relevance for the immediate and near future.

Inevitably the Dems will screw it up, as most parties in power do. But the question is, how LONG before the GOP changes the electorate mind over the direction of the country, because it certainly doesn't appear the GOP is willing to change to address what the electorate is looking for.

It may take quite a bit of time.

So as someone who would self identify as 'conservative' but certainly NOT a conservative. I could care less about Rush's opinions or Powell's. I don't really get either one of those cats.

True. If I am in a military battle I'll ask for Powell's opinion. If I want to increase ratings for my show I'll ask Rush.

As for the "pulse" of the GOP and what needs to happen, niether is correct.

Conservatism will still be there when America gets bored and disillusioned with Obama. America is, like Daisy Buchanan, a woman with a transitory heart. Give her time to doubt her choice, and she surely will.

So I made a partially drunken bet tonight that ten years from the next election...so November 2020...the GOP will be gone as a party. We agreed upon the criteria of less than 10% nation wide. My prediction was that we would see a new party form to the left or right of the dems following the Obama years.

I probably lost $500, but the fact that we're having such discussions says something about where the Republican party is.

So the Republican party should take advice from an individual who endorsed an ultra-leftist like Obama?

if centering the party means less taxes and more spending then f**k the republicans. if it means more taxes and more spending, then f**k the republicans. if it means more taxes and less spending, eh, maybe. if it means less taxes and less spending, then we're on to something.

Regardless of political affiliation or beliefs, Powell deserves respect and Rush deserves an *** kicking. That's all I got.

    What Tropheus said.

Of course the current day repubs have no discipline for the meh or on to something options, this has been proven.

Tropheus is spot on. Powell endorsed Obama. So, while he is a great American, he's not a Republican.

    Question:
Why do liberals & moderates (on this board, in the MSM, & Powell) care what a radio entertainer like Rush has to say? IIRC, Powell endorsed Obama prior to the election. Liberals should be dancing in the streets. You guys won handily and elected the most liberal President in our history, have 60 votes in the Senate, and have a clear majority in the House. You can basically pass anything you want into law. Why even care about ANY comments from someone like Rush Limbaugh? Why tell conservatives to "move to the center"?

Is there really genuine concern for the GOP and conservatives or is there fear of real conservatism rearing its ugly head?

The only theory that makes sense is that it is a diversionary tactic to try to keep people from paying attention as the government takes over Banking, Automotive Manufacturing, Health Care, and Energy.

This moderate liberal wants the GOP to stay right where they are so they can keep on losing.

I think that releasing terrorists into the US should take care of that.
