I'm glad to see these adjustments. Get the players out there who were able to come up big against a relentless OU defense. Maybe this is just what we need to break out and put on an offensive fireworks show this team should be capable of.

Goodwin impressed on the big stage in Dallas, although mistakes can kill a team. But he deserves more time in the spotlight. He could be sensational if he and Colt can get on the same page quickly.

Not only is this a great move, but a move that had to be done. Good call Mack! [IMG]

I am satisfied with the change. I think Williams deserves to start based on last year, and his speed and blocking. I think he is a better receiver than Chiles.

Goodwin has lots of potential. May be a star. Lets see how it works out this weekend.

Shipley is of course the best offensive weapon we have.

I am sorry for Chiles. I think he is a great talent who has been wasted here. I think he could have playe QB for most teams in this conference, and with experience, would have been a great duel threat QB by his junior year.

But here, he was always gonna be behind Colt. And I think that is just a tough break for him. Colt is the starter, no questions asked. Chiles is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

i agree with the posters who say colt won't have time to use much of that speed before the catch, but these cats can haul once they have the ball. puts a lot of pressure on a defense.

also hoping for an uptick in downfield blocking.

colt and marquise seem to be clicking. that's hugely important. for whatever reason he has seemed to be reluctant to throw to malcolm, and i suspect that to be why malcolm hasn't seen a lot of action. we can hope something buds there, too. malcolm could make a lot of difference to this offense.

wish we could hope for an improvement in offensive line play.

I'm glad to see Mack make some changes... always seems to after OU [IMG]

I don't see these guys in practice, but in Chiles defense, GD's playcalling when he's in there generally leaves much to be desired. Throwing a 1-yard pass down the line of scrimmage (GD's favorite play) generally gains significant positive yards about 5% of the time. It's not Chiles ability as much as it has been how he is used in game situations. If mixed in as a combination of down-field threat (more slant or post patterns would be a nice start) along with becoming a true running threat (as a running back and not some Wild-Horn BS- try putting both him and Fozzy or Cody in the backfield together) then we may see Chiles be more productive.

Yep, get Colt healthy, and find one or two other clutch (dare I say "Quan-like") receivers, and this offense will create havoc.

Without regard to the wisdom of the decision, why do you tell MIssouri on Monday before the game about personnel changes? Why not wait until the first play from scrimmage, esp. when one change is more Greg Smith who made one of his rare catches vs. ou, and whose blocking is only slightly better than marginal.

chiles isn't going away. he'll get used.

180, yes, marquise and garrett already have it going.

interesting you mention quan, pericles. a couple of goodwin's catches saturday reminded very much of quan.

    glenn,

Quan was athletic enough to get open frequently, and if a ball was thrown in his direction, he almost always made the grab - sometimes sensationally. He (and Shipley) are two of the most sure-handed receivers I've ever seen at Texas.

If Goodwin can be even half as good, then I think great things are in the future for this team.

And if Williams can also take some of the pressure off of Jordan, it would be a lights out passing game.

Which would open up the running game . . .

If Colt is experiencing Austin allergies (sinusitis), that stuff can linger for some time. I do hope he can shake it off and get healthy. The way that stuff feels at its peak (and I've had my share of it), I wondered how he could even stand up out there, let alone QB the team to a win in a fast, hard-hitting rivalry game.

My hat's off to Colt for what he did on Saturday.

yeah, quan was - and is - amazing. marquise does remind of him in these early days.

when i heard colt interviewed after the game i didn't know he was sick. he sounded awful but i thought he was just hoarse from yelling. i have allergies all day every day. i hope he just has a cold.

I hate showboating, but I would love to see Marquise break into the open field and start into a long jump about the 7 yard line [IMG]

Any time a ball is a little too high for Chiles he doesn't even go up for it. That is the problem I have had with his play.

Williams just hasn't seem to have gotten the chances. I am excited to hear about him getting more playing time.

Goodwin needs more reps after last week.

    Kirkendoll will get it going.

Maybe, its just those posting but you guys seem really fickle.
( You can't decide which players you like.)
After the wild horn started, you didn't want Chiles to ever come off the field.
After Wyoming, Kirkendoll had replaced Quan.
Goodwin had a GREAT game. He is very young compared to the others. He will have good moments and he still will have growing pains like the interception mistake.
Davis will get him on the field more.
I think some of you were calling for Colt to be pulled.
Kirkendoll is struggling but he is a proven receiver. I wish we had Collins too.
Chiles, I don't know about him. He's had a few good plays but several below average ones.

Williams still needs to work on his consistency catching the ball, but I think he really puts a lot of effort into downfield blocking, which is a plus in my book and something lacking with our current crop of WRs.

I know our line isn't playing like we think they should be, but I can't help but wonder knowing if you have that much speed out there if DC's will back off sending as many players after Colt. DC being aggressive will open of more of the field. Just my opinion.

    glenn,

I read/heard that Colt had a sinus condition and then Mack said in his post game interview that Colt had a cold.

For me anyway, cold-like symptoms after a bout of allergy problems are usually a sign of sinusitis -- a bacterial (rather than a viral) infection caused as a result of allergies gone bad. And it can take 2 - 8 weeks (even with Cipro-class antibiotics) to get rid of it.

Whatever it is, I do hope Colt gets over that crud quickly.

I like the changes - anything to spark our first half performance would be welcomed! However, one change I dearly wish I would see is to NEVER see the horizontal pass executed again. I would love to see the stats on the average yards gained (lost) per catch.
