There's an article in the recruiting section over on Barking Carnival talking about a visit from Darius White. It contained this line:
Probably in reference to the likelyhood of a rookie salary cap and labor problems in the NFL. Draft eligible players will probably want to come out before any changes happen in the NFL. Basically, it could cost a player a lot of money to stay in college one more year.
I certainly have not heard about any WR's leaving early. There would be no way we lose starters like Kirkendoll, Goodwin, Williams, Buckner(TE) and Chiles. And then Collins, Monroe(RB/WR), Timmons, and Hales are back next year to get loads of playing year. My only guess is that Philip Payne may graduate, but only a guess that could be what they are talking about.
Not sure if Collins will want to hang around if he'll be in Mack's dog house for his final two seasons, a la Billy Pittman. And Chiles still seems frustrated every time he's out there, even though he's not the one taking direct snaps any longer. Wouldn't be surprised if he was a transfer to go play QB for a year at some Division II school. I guess I could see Malcolm Williams leaving if he's guaranteed 2nd-3rd round money, but that's probably not going to happen. I'm really not sure why Payne is still on the team. After all the wondering whether he was going with Webber. Hales and Fitzhenry haven't been given any PT, which is usually the best way to get someone off the roster. You never know Monroe's situation, but based on what Mack has stated, it looks like a "difference of opinion" isn't going to get him kicked off the team, but he might end up in that limbo like Billy Pittman once had, or Collins might be in. Anyone who think Shipley is the only WR leaving is probably going to be disappointed this offseason. We usually find out a player or two are leaving around finals time, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was another WR in that mix.
If he plays football and track, he is on a football scholarship. If he returns only to track, does he no longer count on a football scholarship (on a year by year basis)?
No way Hales leaves, he got plenty of playing time against baylor and will be a replacement at the position Ship leaves open. Speed always kills. Goodwin can not be put on track schollie full time, that ship sailed this season.
That article on BC is referring to the speculation stemming from how we could afford to have so many receivers coming in (they were including White and Davis as a hypothetical), there's not actually any "buzz" about people transferring/leaving early.
