Why is Mark Ingram a Heisman candidate?

Craig James last night said Ingram was his leader but that McCoy was "knocking on the door." Who the hell is Ingram and what has he accomplished to be inside this mysterious door?

Here are his stats this year: Avg. 127/ yds/game rushing, and 12 rushing TDs. 25 catches and 3 receiving TDs. So, 15 TDs total for a Heisman front runner?

Is the leading case to vote for Mark that no Alabama player has ever won it? If we wanted to play the guiltrip game we could say Vince was hosed because Reggie had a good Fresno State game- so get us back this year. Or how about watching our rival grab two Heismans with mediocre, system QBs- at least Colt will have some form of a career, even if brief in the NFL.

As the little kid with the sign on TV last night said- Colt is the NCAA all time leading winner, and all time best completion percentage. That, in combo with leading the MNC Champ game team with (admittedly not stellar) but very, very good yards and tds- gives Colt the nod. But yet- he is chasing Mark Ingram??

Can someone without burnt orange blinders explain why Mark is the front runner for some voters?

Craig is pretty much anti horns, that is a given over years of anybody but the horns reporting...and ... the second level is he must have really enjoyed that BJ Ingram gave him... [IMG]

This is something I just do not get at all. He has had a good, if not pedestrian season. Good back, but from listening to ESPN, you would think the guy has over 2000 yards rushing and 25 TD's. How he is consistently labeled the Heisman frontrunner is just baffling to me. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Simple. He's the best player on the offense of a top 3 team in the country. He's averaging 7 yards per carry, and he had 4 of his biggest games against the 4 ranked teams they played. His overall numbers aren't that great because he didn't play much against the scrubs.

Whether it's right or not is a different story. But when the big 3 frontrunners (Colt, Bradford, Tebow) were struggling early in the season, he wasn't. So he took the lead. And he hasn't struggled in any game recently, so it's hard for anyone to catch him.

Playing for an SEC team which has a contract with ESPN does not hurt anything.

    It's called marketing.

If he played for a non-SEC team, he would not even be mentioned.

Sure, SEC, TV Contract- but his performance is not even in the range of exaggeration-land. At least Reggie Bush, Bradford, White- had excellent numbers. This is not even close!

If he didn't play for Bama, he'd have a hell of a lot more than 205 carries this year (18.64 carries per game)

Bama averages 42 carries per game

It's quickly becoming like the the Michael Jordan joke from college : Who's the only person who can hold MJ under 20 points a game? Dean Smith

Saban like to rotate backs, a Heisman would be nice, but lets focus on dominating this weeks opponent!

ced's stats his senior year at Texas. Did not even get an invite to NYC. Maybe his poor play (along with the rest of the offense) in the ou game hurt him. How is Ingram the front runner? I don't know. It would be for Colt to win the heisman but the mnc would be better.

Heisman shouldn't even be a discussion. There's a very real chance that Ingram will finish the season and not even approach 2000 all purpose yards.

When Ricky won the Heisman he had over 2300 rushing.
When Bush won the Heisman he had over 2500 all purpose yards. *1700 yards rushing on fewer attempts than it took Ingram to go for 1400*

Ingram's numbers are right in line with what Lendal White did in 2005, except Lendale had twice as many TD's. How many Heisman votes did Lendale get?

Colt is going to break 4000 total yards again this season, he's the winningest QB in college history, the most accurate passer in college history, and top ten in a few other major categories.

    If Colt doesn't win it's a sham.

So far, there's 7 mins left in the 2nd qtr. Bama is down to Auburn 7-14 and Ingram has 6 atts for only 6 yds.

    Heisman frontrunner? Really?

It's the SEC DEFENSE so that translates into 130 yards in the B12. [IMG]

With 2/3rd of the game done, Ingrm still as only about 20 yards. McCoy may wrap up the Heisman in an hour, probably (barring any mistakes next week).

well, given this shitting-of-the-bed, I think Ingram is out of the Heisman race.

Dude is not even in there in the 4th quarter on the most important drive for Bama. That should tell the Heisman voters all they need to know.

Should be out of it completely. If Auburn somehow holds on to this, there is no question he is out of the race.

He should have NEVER been towards the top of the list to begin with.

He has a very good YPC average (well, before this game!) but not overwhelming total numbers. It's pretty much Colt's to lose now. Ingram may still get an invite to NY if he has a good SEC champ game, but Colt's clearly at the head of the pack now.

    Let's say:

    1. McCoy
    2. Keenum
    3. Gerhart
    4. Tebow
    5. Ingram
    6. Shipley
    7. Suh

Yeah, hes definitely out of it now. Not even taking half, if not most of the second half snaps.

Folks, we may have watched the first Texas QB in history to win a Heisman yesterday.

DAMN it's great to be a Longhorn.
