So I guess it's ok if Coach Boom "consults" with Monte Kiffin?

maybe venables got paid consulting fees. maybe he got an all expenses paid trip to lincoln. maybe somebody will put it on an expense report as "miscellaneous" to hide the expenses. who knows? what we do know is IT DIDN"T WORK WELL ENOUGH TO WIN, did it?

See the first post on the Chizik thread -- Auburn seemed to game plan fairly well for Ala, and maybe he could come in for a long weekend, go over tape and give us a few secrets on both offense and defense. I am sure the call has already been made. -- Like I said, it's ok for Texas but unethical for others. [IMG]

Quite frankly, I don't see anything wrong with it from either side. It's a compliment to Texas that Pellini needs help outside his program to help defeat Texas. I don't when it's going to sink into some of the Texas fanbase that the other schools of this league wants us to not just lose but fail on a humongous scale. The penis envy in Norman, Lubbock, College Station, etc is beyond epic proportions. That's why a 16-13 win over OU means more than OU getting trounced in Lubbock because OU don't give a **** about Tech. That team layed down like dogs but when they play Texas and every other school is the same way, they play balls to the wall with snot bubbles flying folks. You get it? We're the Joneses and they can't keep up.

I started the Chizik thread and I don't think it is unethical or an unspoken rule. It happens all of the time regardless of what friends/family says. Now, you don't call someone out of the blue (but you could) but its usually someone who you have worked with in the past.

I would love to have Chizic on the sidelines of the Rose Bowl talking with Musch. When I have a complex legal issue, I will reach out to an attorney who dealt with a similar issue and even take him to lunch, this is no different.

So Bo does not trust his DC to come up with his own game plan against us. All that says is get another DC to me.

I am a little surprised that he actually flew in, but that he provided information is something that I would've expected.

    Pig - that's friggin hilarious......

I wonder if this is could be viewed like the situation at USC where PC had a coach come in and help break down and gameplan special teams. That is a violation of the rules covering # of coaches allowed by the NCAA. Personally, I don't give a crap - but it's always fun to see the cockroaches get stepped on should this blow up in their face......

Asked my dad about this who spent 20+ years coaching at the high school and college levels - said it was highly unethical, but when games get this high-profile some coaches throw all "ethics" out the window.

Hate to throw water on this burning fire but is there a link to this? I'm as avid a Husker fan as you'll find and I haven't heard/read anything about this.

I personally wouldn't mind if the Pelini brothers did leverage Venables. On the other hand, Bo Pelini has an MNC to his credit as a DC. His DC credentials are superior to "Boom" so any insinuation that he needed Venebles to help the defense is laughable.

Bo P's credentials are superior to Boom's. Can you really know that that's true? Or are you stating your opinion as fact?

This is just ridiculous. If you think you have to call in Winston Wolf, you call him in. What's unethical about it? I'd like to think that Mack and Co. wouldn't be shy about having a friend who coaches at another program come in and give them some first-hand insight if it will make a difference. Hell, coaches fly around the country in the offseason to pick other coaches' brains about schemes all the time. It's not like they tried to sneak Gerald McCoy into the game or anything. Damn. Some people will whine about anything. Texas WON.

    NR,

It's not that we don't have allies.

We just don't need them to beat your team, or okie North.

The flying in thing is what is over the top.

I guess having some allegiance to the your South brothers is out of the question. After all seeing Texas lose is what is most important, not the overall stature of the South group.

And I guess the fact of helping someone to beat someone who beat you doesn't diminish your teams stature as well............nah, not much. After this seasons outcome I guess okie stature is not an issue.

Keep those excuses rolling in, it is okies strong suit.

Too bad two okie mind trusts couldn't beat the horns.

I thought Muschamp was Saban's DC when LSU won. I would like to see proof that it was Bo Linguini. I know Will was his DC for a period in Baton Rouge and for the Dolphins.

Texassports bio on WM shows him to be the DC / LB coach at LSU from 02-04 (including the 03 champs). Is there a link to something that says Bo was the DC in 03? (sorry about the Linguini crack, the 7th grader in me slipped out!)

Muschamps won his National Title as D-Cord over OU in the Sugar Bowl. Pellin won his as the D-Cord for Les Miles when LSU beat ohio State in the Sugar. Pellini also was Co-D Cord with Venables in the USC beatdown of OU in the Orange. I fail to see how Pellini is superior to Boom. Pellini 1-1 in the National Championship as a D-cord. Muschamp about to be 2-0.

Yeah, Will M. won it all with Saban in '03 at LSU. Was Bo P. part of the later LSU, 2-loss MNC?? Too lazy to look up.

That whole two loss thing was a gagger to me. With Will's NFL gig, i definitely don't think his resume is less than Bo's. jmo. Besides Saban > Leslie Miles

Maybe Venables was auditioning for a job on Pelini's staff when Stoops moves on.

Seriously, I don't have a problem with him game-planning with the Pelini brothers. I'd be disappointed if Mack and Boom didn't talk some to Chizik before the 'Bama game.

You use your friendships in the coaching fraternity to help you where they can. I don't see any reason to get bent out of shape at Venables...he doesn't owe us any apologies. (Oh, and it's no secret a lot of Big XII teams would like to see us fall on our arse against 'Bama...maybe one of these days we can split this shotgun marriage of a league for a real conference.)

I think Mack's reputation as a coach who doesn't up the score would pay dividends here if Mack could have some friendly calls with Urban, Kiffin, Nutt, etc. I think it is fair to say that Mack is well respected by fellow head coaches.

    Nothing wrong with that.

Mack regularly gets the perspectives from coaches who have played an upcoming opponent.

For example, Mack had lunch with Mackovic in Palm Springs a few days before the USC game -- since John had coached against USC for several years.

    Move along.
