I'm looking into buying a Tempur-Pedic bed and I'm curious if anyone has one and what they think about them. I've only heard good things about them so far.
A person who worked with them posted some info about them in the past. The foam they have is not patented. They just use a better density than the average memory foam pad. You can get a decent mattress and cover it with a good memory foam pad with a quality mattress topper and have about the same thing for a fraction of the cost. It is styrofoam or some solid base covered by a few inches of high density foam, that's it. I know two people who did this and they are very happy. One did this in their guest room as well. His mother-in-law has a Tempurpedic at home and said it was the same thing and that she slept very well.
When we were shopping for a bed, I asked on these boards and someone told me the Tempur-Pedic is very hot. You generate a lot of sweat lying on it. So we went in another direction.
That would be because you are already too hawt to handle? Pulque, of course you do, it's a great bed. But, you could have saved hundreds. You are safe from Bed Mambas on a memory foam.
i have heard the same thing about the mattress retaining heat. my parents got one a few years back, and they said that after a while the foam loses its elasticity where you typically sleep--meaning deep ridges. those two alone were good enough reasons for me and the wifey not to get one. we went with a eurotop.
I have a memory foam top on our mattress and there are mornings where I wake up and the side I am sleeping on is pretty sweaty.
I have a tempur pedic bed, and would not sleep on anything else if given the choice. I used to have a sterns and foster with the memory foam on top, and suffice to say it is not in any way near the same thing as a full tempur pedic mattress. They have various options with wide range of prices. If you get one of the mid range to upper end ones then they have better airflow chambers. I get really hot when i sleep, but have never once had an issue of waking up sweaty from the mattress. The original feel on mine has not waivered, and i was informed when i purchased it that I should expect at least 20 years of quality sleep from the mattress. I have had several orthopedic surgeries from athletic injuries, and this mattress has been a savior to me. i can finally sleep deeply, and comfortably since getting this mattress. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
911, what density of foam topper did you use? That is huge. Some people want to pay a fortune for a mattress and others want to save a ton of money and get virtually the exact same thing. It is a matter of choice and as long as everybody gets a good nights sleep and is happy with their product it's a good deal all around!
