Interesting list. You would think Texas didn't have HS basketball before about 1980. No one off Jackie Carr's great Wheatley teams. How about the mad bomber Dick Davis from Deweyville - a one man team that carried them to the finals twice losing to Snook. Speaking of Snook, how about Calvin Gerhke and Donnie Kovar? Maybe the Phillips brothers and Ronnie Arrow from Jones? Mike Livingston at SOC? Lest we forget our very own football players - Ed Cummingham, Bob Simmons from Crane, Everett Gay, Bill Bradley, Tony Jones. Billy Wright was only at Texas (on FB scholarship) one year before transferring to Memphis State, but average 27 points a game in the large school catagory as a three year starter at South Park. Mickey McCarty at TCU and later KC Chiefs. And of course Hart Lee Dykes. That just for starters. I realize that the quality fo HS basketball has greatly improved in Texas over the last 20-25 years, but there were some great HS players before 1985.
I forgot Ken Spain from Houston Austin HS, only HS player I can remember to be First Team All American in both basketball & football
The list seems to have been selected, if not 100% pretty close, from NBA players and fairly recent. Hook'em!!!
damn, i had the opportunity to referee games involving three off the first team- jimmy smith, bosh, shaq
sabre, I consider the voting a joke when Tommy Jones of Crane was not even third team. There are guys on there who TJ would have chewed up and spit out.
