should hopefully come to an end tonight when Men's Swimming & Diving brings home NC #10. Anyone want to name the 6 Texas teams that came in 2nd since the 2006 Rose Bowl?
Tough memories, but you have to be in the neighborhood to get the championships. tennis lost to georgia; volleyball to Penn State; football to Bama and baseball to LSU. At least one of the other two is men's swimming to auburn and it might be both of the other two.
keeping fingers crossed. so pissed at coming in 2nd. people used to wear those No Fear t-shirts that said 2nd place is the first loser. so true... skc
Well done FW. Definitely nice be in the mix every year and have such a deep athletics program, but I'm ready for this runner-up streak to end. Chronologically since the 2006 Rose Bowl: 2009 - Football (runner up) 2009 - Volleyball (runner up) 2009 - Baseball (runner up) 2009 - M Swimming (runner up) 2008 - M Tennis (runner up) 2008 - M Swimming (runner up) 2006 - W Indoor Track (NC) 2006 - Football (NC) I guess this will make the next win that much sweeter.
Don't forget that our Women's Indoor Track and Team won the NC in 2006 which still makes it four years ago according to Wikipedia. See Below. Championship history National championships[52] (47) Men's Baseball (6) - 1949, 1950, 1975, 1983, 2002, 2005 Football (4) - 1963, 1969, 1970, 2005 Golf (2) - 1971, 1972 Swimming & Diving (9) - 1981, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002 Women's Basketball (1) - 1986 Cross Country (1) - 1986 Swimming & Diving (9) - 1981†, 1982†, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991 Tennis (2) - 1993, 1995 Indoor Track & Field (6) - 1986, 1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2006 Outdoor Track & Field (5) - 1982†, 1986, 1998, 1999, 2005 Volleyball (2) - 1981†, 1988
It has been a drought that hopefully will end tonight. Since 1980 we have won at least one NC a year and only one two year drought in 2003 and 2004 along with a few one year doughts. We need to get out of these upper 40s and get into the 50s and it will be great to get within 2 tonight if we can get it. GO HORNS!
We are up 8.5 pts over Cal heading into diving. Barring a diver getting hurt and not being able to compete or a relay DQ, we should win it. Bill, you are right...I totally forgot W Indoor. Thanks for the correction.
Drought over. Cal wins final event - 400 free relay - finishing 2nd with 469.5 points, but Texas wins 10th NCAA title with 500 points!
Post fail. LIGHT THE TOWER Congratulations to the University of Texas Longhorns 2010 Men's NCAA Swimming & Diving National Champions!
