A little background: 2 weeks ago the Supreme Court (5-4)overruled a california court that ordered the removal of a WW I memorial cross that had been sitting since 1934. It's amazing that 4 justices ruled in favor of the california court. I mean, under their reasoning, you would have to remove all the crosses and star of david's from memorial battlefields (I'm waiting for some worthless pos to bring that suit). Anyway, it appears that some people didnt respect the decision and removed the cross on their own. It looks like a hate crime to me. Stay classy progressives... The 7-foot-tall metal cross that has stood in California's Mojave Desert for 75 years and withstood a hard-fought battle in the Supreme Court was ripped down and stolen Sunday night, according to state officials. "This is an outrage, akin to desecrating people's graves," said Kelly Shackelford, president of the Liberty Institute, which represents the caretakers of the Mojave Desert War Memorial. "It's a disgraceful attack on the selfless sacrifice of our veterans. We will not rest until this memorial is re-installed." The National Park Service says someone cut the metal bolts holding the metal-pipe cross to the top of Sunrise Rock and made off with it Sunday night or before dawn on Monday. It may be politically motivated, but it could also be stolen for scrap metal value, which is very high right now, and there are people stealing metal items just to drag them to the scrap metal yard for money. But maybe it was a progressive scrap metal thief.
