I just bought a MIG welder and learned how to operate it. Now, I'm ready to build some stuff. Give me some ideas for simple projects / things to make that don't require too much welding skill. Thanks.
My good friend took a welding class thru the school district last year and has made some kick *** coffee/end tables. He purchased square "pipes" and plasma cut Texas stars and longhorn heads (I think that's what you call all that stuff) aud then put it all together in a "mission style" design, with granite tops. So far he's sold enough of them to pay for his welder & a plasma cutter.

Thanks for the ideas, keep 'em coming. I don't have a plasma cutter, so for now I'll buy pre-cut metal.
Two tools you will almost certainly need are a grinder and a chopsaw. The chopsaw is not a terribly expensive buy and neither is a 4" grinder. You'll want a wire brush for your grinder, too
What kind did ya get? I've got a Miller 175. It's fun sticking metal together. Hobartwelders.com has a good site. The message board had a section for projects.
On Craigslist right now a guy is selling some bbq smokers that are UT themed. They are about 2k. They are very nice but wow, that is expensive. so if you don't want to threaten him with turning him into the UT attorneys since he is prob. not licensed, build one. Make them orange/white and sell 'em.
