EJC, 3ball thinks we'll only get one of Austin/Ridley. Do you think it's possible we get both? With the way Austin can basically play like a guard as a 7-footer, I could see a lot of different sets with such a diverse guy like him. Throw in Christmas and perhaps somebody else in 2011 and you've got quite the makings of a frontcourt (especially if TT sticks around for a third year). Not overly worried about Daniels. Especially since the chatter is about Kentucky and they have Gilchrist already committed and possibly Nash and Miller in tow as well.
I think I need to clear this up. I don't think landing Ridley would cause Austin to look elsewhere. He might like the idea of coming in and knowing that he could be a pick and pop PF, instead of being asked to play C. But, with our # of scholarships I'm not sure if we will take 2 Centers, even if Austin could play PF. I think it would depend on who leaves, who we get in 2011, and what we need at the time. Personally I love the idea of having both of them. It would make our defense VERY hard to score on. I do think if we land Ridley we lose out on Cleare for sure. They are both true Centers with not much of a pick and pop game. I'd much rather have Ridley though.
The 2012 class will be very interesting to see who we choose to sign. Right now we have ONE scholarships to offer that class with Lexi Wangmene graduating. Someone else would have to leave to the NBA early (Hamilton, Joseph, Thompson, etc) or someone would have to transfer out of the program in order for us to offer another player in the 2012 class...(very likely) If Deandre Daniels reopens his recruitment and chooses another program, then our staff should save that ship for the 2012 class. Early wish list includes... PG LJ Rose SG: Marcus Smart, Rasheed Sulaimon SF: Winston Shepard C: Cameron Ridley or Isaiah Austin Can't have all of them though.....
I would say Rose is an absolute must usually, just based on how highly I've heard people talk about him. But if Myck (and possibly Cory, not to mention JCB) is still here for his So. year and (hopefully) Andrew Harrison is coming in the next year, it seems like as good a time as any to miss on a top 5/10 prospect from our own back yard. I fully expect Hamilton to leave after a 16/6/4-ish year after this season. Wouldn't be surprised if CoJo left with him because the NBA loves tall PGs who can crush teams in the pick and roll (Deron Williams, anybody?). In a dream world: PG: Myck Kabongo/J'Covan Brown SG: Cory Joseph/Varez Ward/Julien Lewis SF: Jordan Hamilton/DeAndre Daniels/Sheldon McCllelan PF: DeAndre Daniels/Lexi Wangmene C: Tristan Thompson/Rakeem Christmas Edit: Forgot Shawn Williams. How do those numbers work out? I already cut Doge and Jai...
Add Jonathan Holmes 6-8 220 to the list! OB's just posted that we've offered. Holmes is a: highly skilled PF from San Antonio that blew up the GASO circuit the summer. His stock is on the rise bigtime. Scout posted today that he's a high major recruit.
I'm not feeling as good about our chances with the Harrison twins as I once did. I'm now leaning towards get who you need in 2012, even if it means losing out on the twins, and then go hard after the Randle, Frazier, and/or Griffin in 2013. For 2012, I think Hamilton will leave after this year, which will give us one more. I think we'll have one transfer between now and then, and I could see Joseph, Myck, Daniels, and Thompson all flirting with the draft. Possibly Christmas if he commits. Then again, I could see us just having 3 or 4 scholarships. In this day and age I can't see Joseph and Thompson staying for 3 years.
Yeah, Randle and Frazier are must gets. Same with Jackson now that he's in 2014. Where does Isaac Hamilton fit into all of this?
Oh yeah, forgot about him. Lol! I think his recruitment will depend on how things go with big brother. I'm sure there are more guys in state that I missed as well.
3ball, why do you feel that way about the twins? Frazier seems to be headed Baylor's way and until Peters decommits I still look for Randle to look heavily at KU. I've never wanted Texas to land anyone as bad as I want Texas to land those two. Hoping Jerryd Bayless would play with DJ Augustin would be a close second.
Nothing really. I know the coaching staff loves them, and I know that they are interested in UT, but they don't have any connection to UT. When I found out they visited UT this summer I think I read too much into it because I, like you, REALLY want them to come to UT. But then I found out that have also been to A&M and Baylor, and liked what they saw and heard. I'm not saying that we won't land them. I'm just saying that we shouldn't let that influence our 2011 class like I once thought it should.
Does it work to take: 2011: Rakeem Christmas 2012: Isaiah Austin, Cameron Ridley, L.J. Rose, Shabazz Muhammad/Winston Sheppard 2013: Keith Frazier, Julian Randle, Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Derrick Griffin/Isaac Hamilton The player/player are assuming somebody from an earlier class goes pro, which with this talent is a pretty easy assumption to make.
For 2011, the person I'm starting to want more & more is Norvel Pelle. Shepard sounds like a lock in 2012 and Muhammed will have everyone after him. In 2013 I think it will come down to either Frazier or Hamilton as Griffin is/will be a PF on the next level.
Sheppard would have to be a lot better than when I saw him on Findlay to be a legit take. I know he was/is young, but he looked like he didn't even know how to play basketball. Would be good to keep that pipeline going though. Muhammad is the truth. Basically unguardable from all over the court. Great inside-out game, to be redundant. Hopefully he keeps his recruitment relatively regional, but it looks like UNC and Duke will weasel their way in there.
Add 7ft JUCO Center Moussa Gueye from Lake Land Juco. We're in his top 5 (Valparaiso, Alabama, USC, Indiana and Texas), official visit to Texas is last wk of Sept, which will be his final visit The Link
A little background from March The Link Moussa Gueye decommits from Valparaiso By Mark Lazerus on March 30, 2010 8:19 PM Moussa Gueye, the 7-foot Senegal native who committed to Valparaiso for the 2011-12 season, has taken back his commitment, according to Lake Land College coach Cedric Brown. Brown said that Gueye text-messaged him on Monday to say he wanted to "open up his recruiting." Brown said he still considers Valparaiso a "front-runner" and expects Homer Drew will continue to try to re-secure Gueye's commitment. Drew is not permitted to publicly discuss recruits who have not yet signed letters of intent. Brown said in an e-mail, "I don't tell my players where to go to school, I just try to help them through the process." It appears to be strictly Gueye's decision. After all, last year, when Gueye committed, Brown said he would do everything he could to "be true" to the VU coaching staff, which essentially asked him to keep Gueye on a track to become academically eligible to attend VU after two years at Lake Land. "If I got a call from Coach K and he asked me is he available, my response to everybody is that he's already committed to Valpo," Brown said last year. "You can bet your bottom dollar that Cedric Brown is going to do everything in his power to be true to that Valpo staff." So Gueye's not out of the mix yet. But after averaging about 11 points, nine rebounds and more than three blocked shots per game, it's likely that other schools -- and bigger schools -- are trying to steal him away.
I usually don't like the idea of signing JUCO guys but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense with this class. For one, I would rather take a guy that can step in right away instead of someone that may need time to develop. Second, I like that it's a guaranteed scholarship that will be open for our 2013 class. And last, a JUCO guy won't scare away one of the top 2012 commits like Austin or Ridley.

If we can land Holmes and a center type recruit, then we'll be fine. Either of the Juco posts would suffice.
I've been trying to find videos of Holmes. It's not easy. Here's a link to an Eric Garza highlight video that then has a full quarter of play by the Antonian Apaches. Holmes is #33 on the same team with the highlight kid shooting all the three pointers. They are the team in light blue starting about the 3:30 mark for the full quarter of game action. The Link I'll let someone else figure out who is who in this hard to see stuff from a game between Antonian and Central Catholic. It sounds like the announcer is saying "Jonathan Holmes" when the large but slow moving guy finishes at the 3:55 mark, but that doesn't look like the same player to me at all. I think Holmes jumped center for the team in white, but I just can't see well enough to be sure. The Link This whole game is avaible, so if someone can identify the teams, I'd appreciate it.
Bierce...here are 4 game clips of Holmes' SA Rohawks AAU in action from the past few months. Check out the first video...1:55 mark...WOW!The Link Holmes is #33.
Bierce...in your 2nd video. Holmes is #33 in white...he did the jumpball. He's the guy in white that's lighting the other team up.
too bad about rakeem christmas. i guess the fact that syracuse signed fab melo last year wasn't too big of a factor.
I've seen on another site that Austin is announcing tomorrow between Baylor, kentucky, ou, & okie state. HOOK 'EM, Texdoc
