Statesman has an up to date summary. Apparently the second suspect was speculation because some of eyewitness descriptions of the man were conflicting. The Link Hopefully it was just the one guy. When I heard of the second one I immediately thought of terrorism. Hopefully it was just the one person, and the only one he harmed was himself. Why does Austin have such bad luck with armed lunatics?
They are not sure there is a second shooter, hopefully this is just reports of people seeing the original shooter. He walked up the stairway of the PCL to the sixth floor, some electricians passed him on the stairway. They reported him to the building manager who ordered the evacuation. The shooter smiled at one student on the way to the building, in a friendly manner. I hope it is just the one person involved.
in the wake of the Virginia Tech shooting, it appears that the alerts and sirens were timely and did a good job of getting pertinent information and warnings out there to students, teachers and staff.
Classes cancelled today, campus being evacuated, no news about an additional shooter. It is looking more and more like one shooter, he fired six shots initially, walked around in a white shirt and tie (others say a business suit), then killed himself on the sixth floor of the PCL. He smiled at the electricians on the stairway of the PCL. He shouted like he was at a football game, according to the witnesses (woohoo). One crazy suicidal nut?
I would have been safe I guess. you never would have seen me at a library at 8:00am. I scheduled 1 8:00am class in 4 years. Campus was always a ghost town at that time.
Whatever happened to the push to allow students/professors to carry weapons on campus? It seems like what could've happened is another student or something shot the guy and he would be the 2nd shooter everybody is talking about. If that were the case a lot of places are going to rethink that gun law.
Randal Wilhite a prof at UT just gave a good interview on CNN (Whew, clad I didn't have to say Fox and get this thread sidetracked). He was very specific. Said the guy was about 6'2" white wearing a ski mask with dark suit and tie ran down 21st toward the PCL. Couldn't see anyone else involved. Pretty sure the guy was acting alone and that the Univ. just wants to be careful because of some conflicting descriptions. Guy could have killed a lot of people but appeared to be running and firing randomly. He wasn't going after people and would shoot in short bursts. Reiterated that the guy appeared to be shooting randomly and not at others. No injuries have been reported other than the gunman.

Still checking for additional "suspect." No other shooter is suspected. Bomb sniffing dogs are checking buildings etc. Conflicting reports from witnesses have caused great confusion. There was a press conference, and the police said they have to take all reports seriously and check them out. It sure seems like there was just one person involved.
Campus "lock down" just ended, so all students and staff can leave the buildings they were in, but classes are cancelled for today, police may be limiting the investigation to the PCL.
Sounds like the University had a plan in place and executed it properly. Props to the administration.
