Back to the minor leagues.

It's looking like Colorado State will go with Nevada's Jay Norvell. I'm a little bit surprised that Norvell didn't hold out another year or two for something better. He's among the "Group B" candidates people talk about for people to fill head coaching openings.

Anthony Poindexter (Penn State DC - former UVA guy)

Tony Elliot (Clemson OC)

I like Norvell. I think his age will hurt him with some of the blue bloods. He's a young 58.

 

Zach Kittley (Western Kentucky OC and QBs) to Texas Tech as the new Offensive Coordinator. Kittley's dad is the Tech track coach, and Zach served as a grad assistant at Tech. A real Lubbock guy.

So Bubba, if it is Venables, why no announcement? Who is playing hide and seek? Venables? OU? And for what reason?

It happened in 1994 when Schnellenberger was coach also. At the time one of the pictures had an image of the bottom of the trailer. One of the sayings painted on the bottom was "Tuck Fexas". I've looked and looked but can't find it.

 

Are OU fans happy with Venables, assuming the rumors are true?

 

They announced and welcomed him at the airport last night.

 

Yes. We all loved him more than Mike Stoops back in the day.

 

I'm sure he'll point to being closer to family as the reason for the move and that may be true. Clearly there is an opportunity given how poorly all the Florida teams have been in recent year to seize the pole position. I'm certain Cristobal will miss the bounty of resources he enjoyed at Oregon. Of course, how often does he need a private plane in Miami? Talent there is simply a stones throw away.

 

Question for you, OUBubba - how's the relationship between Bob Stoops and Venables? Any hard feelings from Venables's departure as DC during the Stoops era?

 

Give Mario time, and The U will be a monster again.

 

I think they have an outstanding relationship. Venables wasn't let go. He left on his own. I think he thought Mike had the inside path to the head coach track.

Dave Aranda would be my pick, if I was Phil Knight.

He was my fave of the reasonable options thrown out there. That guy is awesome. Kyle Whittingham is the one that I didn't hear mentioned that I thought should have been thought about.

 

Aranda is a West Coast guy with former stints in Cal Lutheran, Hawaii, Southern Utah and Utah St. It would make sense that Oregon look at him. He's probably the hottest name remaining too and they are the biggest fish left looking for a coach.

 

And he's already used to some pretty stupid alternate unis.

 

No doubt about that. Won't be long until the U players have bigger salaries than NFL players.
