The more I hear the less I trust. There's a reason some people dont like Tom and have it in for him....goes beyond W/Ls.....and it isn't just inside Travis Co. I'm giving him benefit of doubt as best I can....but starting to wonder more and more about character...not simply maturity. At the very least he appears disingenuous....and grossly overthinks and over maneuvers at times. In his defense, probably tempting to do so even more in current environment
In the OU game good old mo is about as important as anything. Never give OU a chance to take significant mo. Why you go ahead and kick the FG on 4th and 1. Because the mo swing on a stop is huge. It's not a normal game. Herman has never understood that.
New twist in the wuitting. oSu wide receiver Tylan Wallace opts out at halftime of the Cheese-It Boel.
I heard that. That’s a pretty ****** move, halfway through the game. But, college football is full of “all about me and screw the team” prima-donnas.
What is worse is they let him come out in uniform for the second half. He should have been given bus fare back to Stoolwater and sent on his way.
I’d have told him he better use his speed to race back to his locker as the equipment manger is in the process of cutting his lock and throwing his street clothes in the trash. I joked that soon players would quit at halftime, but this was even better. What’s left? Deciding mid-play you want to quit and the after the ball is snapped run straight to the locker room?
Using 247, Brennan Eagles was the 3rd-highest rated WR to sign at Texas since 2010 He was the #10 WR in the 2018 class. Other WRs in the Top 10 that year: JaylenWaddle, Justyn Ross, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Terrace Marshall. Eagles led us in receiving once in 22 games (5 for 142 vs. ISU)
I was not. He lost 3 games his 2nd year at Houston against lesser competition. He could win some big games, but too many losses to crap teams. Course history continues to repeat itself. Reality is he had an NFL level QB and a All American DT.
Totally agree with all your thoughts. Think that when recruits sign their letters of intent to play for Texas, the opt/out option should be presented to each player. If they sign that option, the University will also have the option to opt/out of the scholarship should the player not perform up to expectations.
When a player opts out are they still allowed to use the training facilities? What about all the other benefits they were getting including the dining room?
Too many of todays issues in college football leave the coaches in a no win situation. Send him home, dont let him us facilities, etc... and maybe he does not get drafted, bad mouths the program or other players on team get upset. All cases, the coach loses. Let him stay and use facilities and this is a message that I am sure the coach does not want to send. Dam if you, dam if you dont.
When did things get so F'ed up ? When did society put the cart before the horse ???? When did the inmates start running the asylum ??? Things weren't F'ed up like this back in the early 1960's !!!
I tend to agree. To enforce the issue would take a special kind of leadership at the HC position. I can’t single Herman out because to my knowledge no HC has taken a stand on the issue. What one HC could do would be to issue a carefully worded statement, along these lines: “While we wish the best for ______ as he pursues his dreams of playing at the next level, we are at the same time disappointed by the decision. Football is a team sport. We win, we lose and we sacrifice together. The message to the team by opting out is not one of unity, and not in the best interests of the program.” Interesting and as we saw Tuesday night, many opt outs provide valuable opportunities for other players. There might also be another way to handle this. Knowing that a player intends to opt out, preemptively, the HC could announce that he has informed that player (those players) that his position will be filled in the bowl game by another player who will not be leaving the program. That approach might prove to be a win-win if the HC is on board. Fundamentally though I agree with the OP.
How many scholarships per Power 5 school are pulled after one year would be an interesting statistic.
With Kerstetter plus Karic, Majors, Angilou, Jones, Johnson, Okafor, Hookfin, Moore, Ghirmai and Imade, it will not be bare bones depth for the new OL coach
