That was about the time I became a Texas fan, I was 7. I would hang out in the garage listening to the Humble Oil SWC Game of the Week with my dad every Saturday.

Picture was on the wall at the Guadalupe location of Rooster Andrews Sporting Goods and is one of my all time favorites. Maybe the most important Baylor game ever.

Stopping in Rooster's for a new shirt was only half the fun. Listening to his stories and staring at the walls was the other half...I miss that place

My dad was at that game as a kid and still has the front page paper clipping saved.

Listened to many games on my transistor radio as kid. Kern Tipps made one feel you were in the stadium watching every play.
It was a treat to go to the one and only Humble station in town to get SWC schedules and stickers of your favorite team! And on Sundays you could watch highlights of the games with Kern Tipps as the host. That’s how I remember it.
    Those were the days!!

My dad worked at a local Humble station so I always got first dibs on the SWC pocket schedules, posters, coins, drinkware, whatever they were giving away that year.

My prized possession that I still have:

Interesting timing George. Yesterday I posted the images below, the coin set I found in a desk drawer this past week when we were moving. From the same set as yours.

Man, I wish I still had that collection. I was a stupid 12 year old kid and trashed all the coins that weren't Texas. I actually shot the a&m coin with my first .22 rifle.

But look at those schedules, every team in the conference played a tough out of conference schedule, even 'TCC'. :smile1:

Good point about the schedules. LSU played half the conference. Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Washington, Michigan State, Auburn, Tennessee—all scheduling SWC.

I remember that day and that game. We were in the process of running the clock out and fumbled a QB sneak. Baylor recovered and drove down field. Coach Royal put Duke in on defense. I was sitting on Row 8 in the end zone. The play was right in front of me. The whole thing, the interception, happened so fast. The crowd went silent before fans erupted. One great moment in time. John Bridges was the opposing HC.

I was disappointed when this place shut down. This would be a stop on the way to about every other game we would attend. Now that place is a pet hospital.

    65,

Is it true that Staubach had Cosmetic Surgery to remove the imprint of Scott Appleton's face mask from the side of his face?

Not sure about that. As I recall, we scored on our opening possession. On Navy’s first possession, Roger dropped back to pass and Pete Landon’s chased him down for a 15 yard sack.

Good recap of the cotton bowl game v Navy.

The Times and Turmoil of the 1964 Cotton Bowl

I knew Phil Harris, Hix Green and Nobis. Played on the intramural softball team with Nobis. He hit the ball onto the parking lot next to Breckenridge Hall.
