WorsterMan's picture reminds me of my younger days when I was interested in girls - wish I could remember why!
And Diron Talbert wore uniform no. 73. He was the youngest of three Talbert brothers who played football for UT. Oldest brother, Don, (we will see him tomorrow), played on the 1959-1961 UT teams. Middle brother, Charles, (we saw him on day 89 of the countdown), played on the 1961-1963 UT teams and youngest brother, Diron, played on the 1964-1966 UT teams.
Arroyo, I thought Diron went out with Nobis, Harris, Elliot, Lammons, Marvelous Marv, et al after the 65 season. I just remember the line of new cars parked in front of Gregory Gym purchased with new NFL money Nobis - New Buick Riviera Lammons - Olds Toronado Elliott - Chevy Silverado Then Diron shows up by driving 6-7 year old Cadillac convertible up on hte sidewalk half way to the front steps
SabreHorn, I am pretty certain Diron Talbert lettered at Texas in the '64, '65 and '66 seasons. Based upon what information I could find, he was drafted by both the AFL (San Diego Chargers) and the NFL (Los Angeles Rams) in the 1966 draft, but his first season was with the NFL's Rams in 1967, a season in which he was mostly injured. It also appears that the 1966 NFL draft was held on November 27, 1965 (Nobis was selected 1st), but don't know why Diron Talbert was selected in that draft. Maybe the teams wanted to get a jump start on his rights. He was selected in the 1966 AFL "redshirt" draft, so that may confirm that he had one more year to play at Texas. As for you seeing the new cars and also the Cadillac convertible halfway up the sidewalk in front of Gregory Gym, that's pretty cool.
Don Talbert, no. 72. The oldest of the three Talbert brothers. He played at UT on the 1959-1961 teams.
(Whistle sound) Illegal Procedure - Premature Number Posting The HornFans Kangaroo Court will convene at a later date to determine sentence and bail amount. Careful - you could be buying drinks for all posters.
He also passed away way too early, at age 56 in 2006 of a heart attack. Played on the 1970-72 UT teams.
HF clock says 70 days, so here is one of the greatest to ever wear #70: The late, Consensus All American & Outland Trophy winner DT Scott Appleton::
Well, in a few weeks, on or about August 10th I'm going "dark" for the next 2-3 years. Won't be posting much if at all. But, I'll be back, and NO, I'm not in jail or prison if anyone tries to start rumors about such. I'll be working on advanced law degrees, an LLM and once that is done an SJD (the law equivalent of a PhD). In addition, the wife and I bought so acreage in the deep desert here in Arizona today to build a new home. So, I'll be plenty busy with that. Hopefully, I can pop in with a ridiculous post now and again, but they'll be few and far between. In the meantime, I hope Sark can get the program back to a top 4 ranking over the next couple of years and maybe an NC or 2...maybe 3. Keep the faith and, as always...HOOK 'EM!!! Ve con Dios mis amigos varones y mis amigas
Bud, UT starts crushing it,,,,, I’m betting you take a break from studying Kramer vs. Kramer to the point I’ve forgotten you are even on sabbatical.
Joe Phillips, Midland High. A solid offensive lineman (in a time when that was the rule and not the exception) who played on the last SWC championship team.
With baseball over, I have to look at this infernal countdown for 4 weeks before we get real football news.
No one from Texas riding in the Tour De France, so far as I can tell, so not much point in following that for two weeks. Although they did start out with a couple of spectacular crashes. (I ride a bike on weekends and seeing those crashes made me crumple up with sympathy pains.) A "right mess" thanks to some bozo on the road holding up a sign. Way to go, ***hole. Out of the blue, on a straight road, a 2nd crash.
