I could never understand why the team has not suffered WR attrition through the years. Normally these are high ego guys who can not accept riding the pine.
Here is TFB addressing some of this -- Badara Traore: Texas lost OT Jean Delance to transfer earlier this week. Delance wasn’t going to play meaningful minutes at Texas in 2017, but he was going to be in the competition for the LT spot in 2018 after Connor Williams is likely headed to the NFL. Texas doesn’t have an OT on campus right now that they’d feel very comfortable taking reps at LT if Williams went down. So one could develop into a better option by the time 2018 rolls around. But I feel like there is a better chance Texas dips into the JUCO ranks for an OT. That guy could by ASA College (NY) OT Badara Traore. At 6’8 315 pounds, Traore is coming off an ACL tear that kept him out in 2016 but is still a Top 3 JUCO OT in the nation. I talked with him recently and he has told me that the communication with Texas has picked up recently. He said that if they offer they’ll likely receive an official visit. Right now Auburn, LSU, and Ohio State are some schools standing out for Traore. But like most JUCO guys, playing time is the top thing for them. So I’m sure if Texas offers they’ll sell the open LT spot to him. – (Andrew) http://texas.thefootballbrainiacs.com/2017/08/open-post-weekend-august-18th-20th/
I won't lie, this might be my favourite pick up in this class. I think Ghirmai is going to be a great one. Size, strength, but more than that quickness and solid footwork. Lower body strength is important in the trenches, but the real difference in power can come simply from foot positioning, quickness, and technique. I am super stoked. Let's stock that OL deep!
I was watching his videos. From the snap to the whistle dominance and nastiness. Reminds me of Stan Thomas and Mike Williams. Of course I only saw Thomas and Williams against college players.
I wonder with this pick up and some how we get CB Cook if that gives us a chance to pass Ohio St for #1 class?
agreed. even if he's simply a "solid starter" (which I wouldn't sneeze at) we really need more line depth. we have no OG, no C, no DEs, and one DT. i'm hoping some top talent sees this and is interested in playing time. Could Bobby Brown fit a 3-4 DE role? he's pretty long and athletic.
Ghirmai is certainly good news. For a while I was wondering if we're going to switch to a 7 on 7 league next year.
The Horns should try to flip the OG Demarcus Marshall that signed with Texas Tech. He is a huge Longhorn fan and I believe with an offer, would flip his commit. Dominick Wood-Anderson is our lowest rated commit (among non-kickers) in this class. His 247 composite score is .8778. As a member of the 2016 class, he would have been our 7th highest rated commit 2017 is going much better
