Curious? How would the Aggie's be faring (field and financial performances) in B12 if they had not moved on to the powerful SEC? What have they really gained or lost? How do they stack up vs top tier SEC schools? Bottom? Do they have a true SEC rival ?
I dont have a source, but seems like I read they dont make as much anymore than if they had stayed. I honestly believed they would have played Alabama for the national championship with Johhny Football uad they stayed. They were a big 12 style team and would have run the table that year in the big 12. What they gained was the ability to chant SEC and I dont see many other advantages. No, they dont have a rival, just like Nebraska doesnt either. They arent top tier in football in the sec for sure.
Those idiots say how great they are NOW that they are in the toughest division in college football. They played in the toughest division in college football once before from 2001 - 2009, the Big XII South. They have nothing to show for it then, or now. So LSU is their rival now? 0-7 (soon to be 0-8) does not sound like a rivalry to me. - Mike
Thanks for your thoughts... I'll bet LSU doesn't really rate them as much of a rival! Gonna be a long road for Ags and I'd bet that Fisher will not see the end (10 year) contract....Personally, I'm not impressed with him as a coach. Unlike, what Strong left TH, his roster was left with many solid players
Regarding another thread, I like TH's answer about winning. Basically, good teams must adjust to win in whatever way is needed. I do believe they got away from controlling the ball in 2nd half the way they did in 1st. However, credit should be given to Kingsbury and Gibbs. Still can't believe TT went for it on 4th from their own 30+- ....very costly mistake. There are some in SEC territory that really believe that Texas hasn't played anyone near the level of SEC programs.....guess the chart above is wrong about top offenses! 4 teams near or above 500 yds per game and Texas should have won them all.
Let's see, Aggy would be ranked somewhere about 3rd thru 5th in the conference and not be challenging for a conference championship, but they would still be saying next year will be their year. I guess to them the only difference would be losing to Bama, Auburn & LSU every year sounds much fancier than losing to Oklahoma, Texas, TCU & Tech.
Joe, Don't overlook the SEC SEC Aggies have the powerhouse UAB coming to the cesspool this weekend. I'm sure the Motel 6, Days Inn, Comfort Inn, & every other flea-bag motel owned by the Patel family will be overrun by the throngs of UAB fans - both of them.
22, To answer your original question, what the Aggies gained was the ability to make their $20 million loan payment to the school while they were losing another $20 million. It was about to get even more embarrassing in Brazos County. While they make no more money, their fundraising has become more successful since moving. How long will that last? Until the new wears off Jimbo. As for the purple & gold coonasses, they have long memories, like: A&M signing a contract to play in Baton Rouge TEN years in a row The mid 80s, when LSU beat A&M in football, knocked them out of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, upset them at the NCAA Track Championship, eliminated them from the baseball regional. ALL IN ONE YEAR!
Honestly if we played them right now it's a pretty good game. I like us at QB, WR. OLine is a push, and RB slight edge to Aggies. Our D is playing so poor, you can't call any game safe and for that matter any lead. So you can't really say we're a big favorite over any team based on the W/L and points totals. Even Tulsa which was the easiest game so far.
They'd be mid-tier Big 12 South just like they are mid-tier SEC West. They'd lose nearly every game to OU like they do Alabama. No, they'd don't have an SEC rival.
I think OUs D is so bad that you can't really say that. OU has had that sooner magic this year for sure. OT win over Army and missed extra pt win over OSU. Lose to us. They could easily have our record. I think they'll lose to WVU as it's in Morgantown and WVU is more of a complete team. Not sure OUs O is that much better than WV and their D is worse. Would OU fare any better than aggy against elite teams like Bama or Clemson? Not sure they would. Bama could easily beat them by 4 TDs. Not sure OU would get a stop. The Big 12 is a long way from 2008 and both OU and Texas need to step up their game. Hopefully in 2-3 more years we are back to that level. There just aren't any Jeffcoats, Kindels, Hicks, Houston, M. Brown type players on this team. We're missing Poona like I thought we would. We gotta get some elite pass rushers on the edge and some DTs that can consistently get a push. Charles O has played pretty well lately, but he's far from elite. We would be middle tier SEC . as well. Not sure OU would fare that much better. Hell we beat them so why do I think they are any better than we we are? Because OSU missed an extra point against them and on us scored on a 3rd and 10? Both games came down to one play. I'm not seeing a significantly better team north of the red river. In 08 OU crushed a much better OSU team.
It's always fun to see who shows up in SEC home stadiums on Cupcake Saturday (3rd Saturday in November).
My delusional Aggie bud only talks about the tough SEC schedule, as if they play every ranked team in a given year. It’s his go-too response to any criticism.
But, interestingly enough, LSU makes no such matching claim. aggy is more like the Vanderbilt Commodores...everyone LOVES having them on the schedule most seasons since it SHOULD be a win.
Big 12 football is the most entertaining conference to watch and it's not close. If you didn't care who won, our games against tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia were marvelous contests. OU/OSu ... Just wow. OU vs Army. .. dammed interesting.
I admit I been watching Tech since Leach, and never stopped Just bc they are so much fun That lead to realizing Mahomes was special -- and I was somewhat vocal about him to Texans but Andy Reid removed that possibility pretty quick
Entertaining football is different than good football. Yes the offenses are really good here, but part of the stats are propped up because the defenses are so bad. There is a reason the Big XII rarely contends for a national championship and its not because we are getting shafted nor because we beat each other up. This conference is average.
You're talking this year. I'm talking generally, which is why I said Aggy would lose nearly every game to OU like they do Alabama. Hard to remember, but they did beat Bama once. In fact, Aggy will beat LSU eventually.
Aggie UAB better not be slept on by SEC aggies. They have a solid chance of taking them down or at least scaring the crap out of them.
They've never had an issue calling a game they usually lose a rivalry in the past, so this shouldn't be a surprise.
