Regionals will be held at the HEB Center in Cedar Park!
Hmmm. Because in 3 years:
1) The Erwin Center will still be considered old and decrepit?
2) Already torn down for medical center expansion?
I believe the NCAA wants to be more "neutral" as far as not really awarding regionals to college venues where a team can play in its home arena; could be wrong. And, based on the talent Texas and Baylor are stockpiling, it's almost 100% that one of these teams will be sent to the "Cedar Park Regional". Heck, they could also send A&M to really help sell it out.
HEB Center in Cedar Park is like 5 miles from my house.
I have no idea where it is, other than it is way the heck far away from me. Still might go.
Great as always to see those types of events being awarded in Central Texas!
The HEB Center is in north Cedar Park off of 183/183A. It has a seating capacity of about 8,000.
This is a huge opportunity for our program if we are seeded high enough in the bracket to be placed in this regional. Kudos to whomever (Plonsky, Aston, etc.) came up with this idea. It's a perfect solution since teams are not allowed to play in an arena that is deemed your home arena; this is what UConn gets to do just about every season, and not as close as Cedar Park is to the UT campus.
If we are a Top 16 national seed, I am not sure if we are guaranteed to be placed in this regional; but, we are noted as the host school.
Release from Texas:
Sounds like if Texas does its work (be among the top 16), Horns will be hosting.
Should have a salty team with the Fab Five all being seniors that year.
